MLB Betting Analysis July 15-21
Tampa Bay Rays at New York Yankees
When: Wednesday, July 17 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
Analysis: The two top squads in the AL East Division square off on Wednesday, July 17 when The Tampa Bay Rays battle the New York Yankees. The Rays have scheduled Yonny Chirinos to start for them.
Chirinos has thrown well this season. He’s got 89 strikeouts in 107 innings pitched. His ERA is a very good 3.11 while his WHIP is a terrific .96. He’s faced Yankee batters 102 times. NYY only hits .235 versus Chirinos.
The Yankees counter Chirinos with Domingo German. German has turned into one of the Yankees’ aces. His ERA is a fantastic 3.40 while he’s got an excellent 11-2 record and 1.05 WHIP.
Although German and the Yankees look like easy winners, the last time he started against the Rays, Domingo gave up 3 earned runs off 5 hits in 5 innings. The Rays won 4-3. That means Tampa is the play in this.
Pick: Tampa Bay Rays
New York Mets at San Francisco Giants
When: Saturday, July 20 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: Oracle Park, San Francisco, CA
Analysis: Jacob deGrom has a 5-7 record, but outside of that, he’s had a decent season on the mound. His ERA is a good 3.21 while his WHIP is only 1.12. deGrom allows the Giants to bat .253 against him.
The lowly Giants are 17.5 games behind the rival L.A. Dodgers in the National League West Division. The Giants hope to score a victory with Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz must do something different if he hopes to give his team the win. His ERA is an awful 6.42.
In Pomeranz’s last 4 starts, the Giants have lost. They figure to lose again on Saturday.
Pick: New York Mets
Washington Nationals at Atlanta Braves
When: Sunday, July 21 at 7:20 pm ET
Where: SunTrust Park, Smyrna, GA
Analysis: Anibal Sanchez faces the Braves on Sunday with a 3.71 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Atlanta bats .247 versus Sanchez. They have 6 home runs and 37 total hits from 150 at-bats.
Although Sanchez doesn’t have the greatest stats, Washington has responded in most of his starts. The Nats are 7-1 straight up in the last 8 games that Sanchez has started. That’s a great sign that they can hang with Atlanta on Sunday.
Another great sign is that Max Fried has had control issues in his last couple of starts. In his last start against Miami, he gave up 5 earned runs off 11 hits in only 5 innings. Washington should win this.
