Baseball has some great action this week. Keep reading of the must-watch games for the last week of August 2020.
MLB Top Games of the Week August 24 – August 30
Monday, Aug 24
Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers
Cubs starter Alex Mills is 2-2 with a 4.76 ERA. CC should have no trouble scoring runs against Detroit starter Casey Mize. Casey’s 6.23 ERA does not provide confidence.
Oakland A’s at Texas Rangers
Texas has a shot to win this game on Monday. Starter Lance Lynn is 3-0 with a 1.37 ERA. He’s throwing about as well as any pitcher in MLB.
Tuesday, Aug 25
Baltimore Orioles at Tampa Bay Rays
This could be a tougher matchup than many believe. Even though Orioles pitcher Tommy Millone is 1-3, Rays starter Tyler Glasnow has a 6.00 ERA.
L.A. Dodgers at San Francisco Giants
The Dodgers have gone 9-1 SU in their last 10. They’re 21-8 while the Giants are 13-16. Once again, rival San Francisco’s goal is to play spoiler in the NL West.
Wednesday, Aug 26
Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals
It’s hard to see Spencer Howard and his 6.17 ERA standing up to the Nats’ bats. It helps that starter Patrick Corbin has a 3.99 ERA.
New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves
Yankees-Braves could be a World Series preview. Atlanta continues to play well even though Mike Soroka is done for the season. Atlanta starter Max Fried is one of the reasons. He’s 4-0 with a 1.32 ERA. So, even though the Yankees send Gerrit Cole to the mound, don’t count out the ATL.
Thursday, Aug 27
Seattle Mariners at San Diego Padres
Pitcher Yusei Kikuchi continues to struggle. His 6.30 ERA won’t get a boost at Petco Park, one of the toughest venues to throw in Major League Baseball.
Cincinnati Reds at Milwaukee Brewers
Brewers starter Josh Lindblom is 1-1 with a 6.65 ERA. Anthony Desclafani has a 5.57 ERA, though. The Brewers went 2-1 against the Reds in the last series. That gives The Fonz’s city the edge.
Friday, Aug 28
Cleveland at St. Louis Cardinals
The Tribe has not made it easy on the Twins. As of August 22, Cleveland is a half a game behind Minnesota. Starter Tristan McKenzie is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a .50 WHIP. That makes this the Tribes’ to lose.
San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks
The Giants haven’t said who they will start on Friday. Arizona will start Luke Weaver. Luke has had a rough go of it this season, 1-3 with a 9.16 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP. SF may have a shot to grab a rare win on Friday.
Saturday, Aug 29
Oakland A’s at Houston Astros
Expect A’s-Astros on Saturday to be a great game. Oakland sends 2-0 and 3.67 ERA Jesus Luzardo to the mound. On August 9, Jesus threw 5.2 innings against the Astros. He allowed 2 earned runs off 2 hits. The Stros counter with Framber Valdez. Framber threw 7 innings versus Oakland on August 8. He allowed 2 earned run off 7 hits. A’s versus Astros should be fun!
Washington Nationals at Boston Red Sox
Nationals starter Austin Voth is 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA. Voth could have the edge in this, though. Boston puts Zack Godley on the mound. Godley is 0-2 with a 6.87 ERA.
Sunday, Aug 30
New York Mets at New York Yankees
It feels like the Mets are throwing Robert Gsellman to the wolves. Gsellman hasn’t lasted more than 2 innings in any of his last 3 appearances. The Yankees counter with Jordan Montgomery, who has a 2.45 ERA in the last 7 days. Yankees run line? It’s looking that way.
Oakland A’s at Houston Astros
Sunday’s A’s versus Astros matchup pits Houston’s Christian Javier against Oakland’s Sean Manaea. On August 9, the A’s belted Javier for 5 earned runs off 3 hits in just 3 innings. But Sean Manaea’s ERA is an awful 6.39, making this game a tough one to handicap. Do you’re homework before laying money on either side.
