MLB Best Bets May 30 – June 6Sportbet.com Staff
Baseball, unlike the other 2 major sports, is one where parity reigns. Baseball depends on individual pitcher and batter matchups for every game, every week. That’s what makes betting on baseball so much fun.

You can find diamond in the rough games every week. My diamond in the rough games this week has the Los Angeles Dodgers heading to the Windy City for a battle versus the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, June 2. I also love one of the teams in the San Francisco versus St. Louis matchup on Friday, June 3. On Sunday, June 5, Toronto heads to Boston to battle the Red Sox. Keep reading for my best MLB bets of the week!
A Closer Look At My MLB Best Bets May 30 – June 6
Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs
When: Thursday, June 2 at 2:20 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: LAD-Kenta Maeda vs CHC-Kyle Hendricks
The Cubs Kyle Hendricks may have a 3 and 4 record, but his WHIP and ERA are still very good. Hendricks’ ERA sits at 2.93. His WHIP is a terrific .98. Versus the Dodgers, his ERA has been even better. Los Angeles hits .167 versus Hendricks. The Dodgers have only 5 hits from 30 at-bats.
Kenta Maeda has been absolutely terrific this season. The Dodgers have found a possible ace replacement for Zach Greinke in the Japanese Maeda. His ERA is a very good 3.00. His WHIP is 1.05. The Chicago Cubs have never faced Maeda. I believe that because of unfamiliarity this might be a good time to go against the Cubs at home even though one of their top pitchers will be on the mound. I like Maeda and the Dodgers in an upset.
Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers
San Francisco Giants at St. Louis Cardinals
When: Friday, June 3 at 8:15 pm ET
TV: MLB Net
Listed Pitchers: SF-Johnny Cueto vs STL-Adam Wainwright
The San Francisco Giants have been on fire. Going into May 29, the Giants have won 8 out of their last 10 games. The G-Men have won the last 6 games when Cueto has taken the mound. He’s 7 and 1 on the season. The lone loss for Cueto happened way back on April 21. His 2.38 ERA and .99 WHIP is a sign that he’s returned to the awesome form that he had before being traded to Kansas City last season. Cueto’s also shut down the Cardinals nasty-like during his career. From 103 at-bats, the Cards only have 17 hits, 2 of the hits being home runs, versus Johnny Cueto.
St. Louis pitcher Adam Wainwright is still having difficulty with his control. The Giants should win this game easily on Friday with Cueto on the mound.
Pick: San Francisco Giants
Toronto Blue Jays at Boston Red Sox
When: Sunday, June 5 at 1:35 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: TOR- Marco Estrada vs BOS-Eduardo Rodriguez
Marco Estrada has been one of the shining stars in Toronto’s starting rotation this season. Estrada has a 2.76 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP. He’s also done a good job versus the Red Sox when holding Boston to a .237 batting average from 114 at-bats.
But Estrada could have a tough time against the Red Sox on the road. Boston’s offense is ranked first in MLB in runs per game and overall batting average. At home, the Red Sox offense is even better. Pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez, who is listed as the starter for this Sunday matchup, hasn’t been very good against Toronto when allowing a .344 batting average from 32 at-bats.
I have faith that Rodriguez comes out much tougher while Estrada has trouble holding the best offensive team in MLB from scoring at least 5 runs in a friendly OPS ballpark. I’m going with Boston.
Pick: Boston Red Sox
