A Closer Look At Baseball’s Best Bets For The Week Of April 4-10th
Chicago Cubs at St. Louis
When: Wednesday, April 6th
Chicago sends Jon Lester to the mound versus the rival St. Louis Cardinals this Wednesday. Lester has a 4.71 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. St. Louis has 31 hits out of 92 at bats for a .337 average versus Lester.
Lance Lynn has been his usual stellar self so far this season even though he has a 1 and 2 record. Lynn has an ERA of 3.07 and a 1.19 WHIP. Chicago’s gotten to Lynn in the past, though. He allows the Cubs to hit .274 against him. Lester will be offering odds making the Cubs the play in this matchup.
New York Mets at Philadelphia
When: Friday, April 8th
Baseball handicappers should be in for a pitcher’s duel treat when the Mets send Matt Harvey to the mound to take on Cole Hamels and the Phillies on Friday. Harvey looks like a CY Young contender again. He’s 5 and 0 with a 2.41 ERA and a .92 WHIP. Harvey holds Philly batters to a .153 batting average.
But Hamels is no slouch. Although Cole is 1 and 3 with a 4.14 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP this season, he can come up big at times. Unfortunately, he usually doesn’t come up big versus the Mets. They hit .285 against Hamels. The Mets and Harvey should roll to an easy “W” on Friday.
Atlanta at Washington
When: Saturday, April 9th
Julio Teheran takes the mound for the Atlanta Braves versus the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Even though Teheran is 2 and 1 on the season, his ERA is a less than spectacular 4.45. His WHIP is 1.48. Teheran is even worse versus the Nationals.
Washington has 89 hits from 166 at bats versus Julio Teheran. They’ve hit 5 home runs against Atlanta’s top starter. Washington also puts Doug Fister on the mound in this Saturday matchup.
Fister isn’t all that great versus Atlanta. Atlanta bats .314 versus Fister. Almost as scary is the fact that Fister has a 1.41 WHIP. This is a game were the dog, Atlanta, has a big shot against a team’s ace. Back the Braves.
