MLB Best Bets June 6-12

We have just passed the two month mark in the 2016 MLB betting season and the first two of my best baseball bets of the week involve 3 teams from the mighty NL Central. On Wednesday, June 8, the Chicago Cubs travel to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies. The Cubs start pitcher John Lackey against Phillies’ ace Vince Velasquez. On Sunday, St. Louis battles Pittsburgh. The Cardinals start Mike Leake on the mound while Pittsburgh starts Juan Nicasio. After the Cardinals battle the Pirates, the L.A. Dodgers travel to the Bay Area to take on the rival San Francisco Giants. Keep reading for my best bets of the week in Major League Baseball!

A Closer Look At The Best MLB Bets June 6-12

Chicago Cubs at Philadelphia Phillies
When: Wednesday, June 8 at 1:05 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: CHIC-John Lackey vs PHI-Vince Velasquez

John Lackey, like almost everybody in the Cubs’ starting rotation, has a sub 1.00 WHIP at .97 and a sub 3.00 ERA at 2.88.  Lackey has given up 9 hits and a single run in his last 13.2 innings pitched. That’s excellent. But against the Phillies, Lackey might have some trouble. He’s been starting at home and he starts on the road versus Philadelphia. Lackey has also allowed the Phillies to bat .276 against him in 76 at-bats.

Vince Velasquez was hotter earlier in the season. He takes the mound on Wednesday with a 3.67 ERA, a 5 and 2 record and a 1.27 WHIP. Velasquez has only faced Cubs’ batters 20 times. They nailed him for 9 hits, 2 of the hits were home runs. Velasquez should be better suited to battle the Cubs on Wednesday. The problem is that Philadelphia may not score more than a single run against Lackey. I like the Cubs.

Pick: Chicago Cubs

St. Louis Cardinals at Pittsburgh Pirates
When: Sunday, June 12 at 5:00pm ET
TV: ESPN
Listed Pitchers: STL-Mike Leake vs PIT-Juan Nicasio

Mike Leake’s numbers on the season aren’t that bad. His ERA is sub 4.00 at 3.82.  His WHIP is a sub 1.20 at 1.14. Leake hasn’t had great success versus the Pirates. From 220 at-bats, the Pirates have a .273 ERA. They have 60 hits including 6 of those hits being home runs.

Juan Nicasio is 4 and 4 with a 4.75 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. But he’s been excellent against the Cardinals. In his last start versus the Cards, on April 6, he gave up 1 run from 2 hits in 6 innings. I don’t expect Nicasio to do that again. St. Louis has a .278 batting average for around 54 at bats. Not only that, but Nicasio has given up a total of 10 earned runs in his last 15.2 innings pitched. My money will be on Leake and Cardinals in this game.

Pick: St. Louis

Los Angeles Dodgers at San Francisco Giants
When: Sunday, June 12 at 8:30 pm ET
TV: ESPN
Listed Pitchers:  LAD-Mike Bolsinger vs SF-Jake Peavy

Could it be that Jake Peavy has turned things around?  Peavy’s ERA is still a terrible 6.34. His WHIP is 1.57. But Peavy has given up only 1 earned run off of 7 hits in his last 13.2 innings pitched. That’s awesome.
Mike Bolsinger usually has a tough time of it against the rival Giants. The G-Men hit .317 against Bolsinger. They have 20 hits from 63 at-bats. Eventually, Bolsinger is going to have to bow out of the game. When he does, San Francisco should take charge. I’m with the Giants.

Pick: San Francisco
