Baseball Week 19 Best BetsJosh Bailey
The dog days of summer are winding down and the surging Toronto Blue Jays have turned the league upside down since last month’s trade deadline and that trend will continue. We are far too deep into the 2015 baseball betting season for a tiger to change its stripes. Hitters are going to hit, pitchers are going to throw strikes.
Major League Baseball’s Week 19 Best Bets
Washington Nationals at San Francisco Giants
When: Thursday, August 13th
Stephen Strasburg takes the mound for the Washington Nationals in an extremely important game between the Nats and the Giants on Thursday. Strasburg doesn’t appear to be anywhere close to the man that many thought would turn into one of the best pitchers in MLB. This season, Strasburg’s ERA is a bad 4.76. His win-loss record is 6 and 5 and he’s got a terrible 1.38 WHIP. San Francisco hasn’t had great success versus Strasburg. The Giants bat .244 with 2 home runs and 19 hits from 78 at-bats versus Washington’s former ace.

San Francisco counters Strasburg and the Nats with 38-year-old Ryan Vogelsong. Vogelsong has a 4.26 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. Versus Washington, Vogelsong has been horrible during his career when allowing a .288 average and 25 hits from only 88 at bats. Vogelsong hasn’t pitched 5 innings or more since a game on July 11. That’s 7 straight games without going at least 5 innings. Strasburg, even with his troubles this season, and Washington are the play in this matchup.
Detroit Tigers at Houston Astros
When: Saturday, August 15th
Justin Verlander appears to have turned things around. Before getting belted by Kansas City for 5 runs off of 10 hits in 7 innings, Verlander had pitched a total of 16 innings yielding only 2 runs off of 11 total hits. Houston bats .151 versus Verlander with a single home run and 11 total hits from 73 at-bats.
The Astros have scheduled Collin McHugh to take on Verlander and the Tigers this Saturday. McHugh’s only faced Detroit batters 24 times. He’s allowed 9 hits from those 24 at-bats for a .375 average. Overall, McHugh’s ERA is 4.22. His WHIP is 1.32.

It looks like Detroit and Verlander could win this matchup as a road underdog this Saturday. If Detroit is favored, the Tigers won’t be favored by much. Back Detroit versus Houston on August 15.
Los Angeles Angels at Kansas City Royals
When: Sunday, August 16th
Angels versus Royals is ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball game. The Angels will try and keep pace with the Astros in the AL West by sending Matt Shoemaker to the mound. Shoemaker hasn’t had any success versus KC batters in his career. The Royals bat .444 against Shoemaker. He’s allowed 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and 24 hits from 54 at-bats.

This could be a high-scoring game. Kansas City’s Yordano Ventura, who many thought might be KC’s ace this season, has a 5.29 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. The Angels have hit .313 versus Ventura. Albert Pujols is 3 out of 5 with a home run while Mike Trout is 2 out of 4. But, Ventura’s got that bullpen to back him up. Expect KC to win this matchup by at least 2 runs.
