MLB Best Bets For May 2-8Josh Bailey
It truly is baseball season. There are some excellent matchups this week. On Wednesday, Boston and the Chicago White Sox battle it out in what could be a high-scoring affair. Friday sees a top NL Central battle between Pittsburgh and St. Louis. Both teams are chasing the Chicago Cubs, the top team in baseball at this point in the season. Sunday has the Dodgers taking on Toronto. Both teams will have their respective aces on the mound. Keep reading for my best MLB bets of the week!

A Closer Look At My MLB Best Bets For May 2-8
Boston Red Sox at Chicago White Sox
When: Wednesday, May 4 at 8:00 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: BOS-Clay Bucholz vs CWS-John Danks
Clay Bucholz hasn’t had that great of a 2016. So far, the 9 year vet is 0 and 3 with a 6.51 ERA and 1.59 WHIP. But against the White Sox, Bucholz has been money. Clay’s allowed 23 hits from 118 at-bats versus the White Sox. He’s given up only 2 home runs. The White Sox bat 1.95 against him.
Chicago sends John Danks to the mound on Wednesday. Danks has been worse than Bucholz so far this year. His record is 0 and 4 with a 7.25 ERA and a 1.75 WHIP. The Red Sox have pummeled Danks for a .326 batting average. They have 31 hits from 95 at-bats versus Danks.
Based on those numbers, it’s tough to go with the home team White Sox in this matchup. I’m backing Boston.
Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals
When: Friday, May 6 at 8:15 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: PITT-Francisco Liriano vs STL-Carlos Martinez
Francisco Liriano’s record of 2 and 1 and ERA of 3.86 aren’t terrible. Liriano has faced the Cardinals many times during his career. He’s allowed a .259 batting average. The Cardinals have 58 hits, 6 being home runs, from 224 at-bats against Liriano.
Carlos Martinez is 4 and 1 with a 2.60 ERA. He’s faced Pittsburgh batters 29 times, allowing only 4 hits. Martinez’s WHIP of .89 this season makes him awfully difficult to go against. So, I won’t. I like the Cardinals to get a win over their NL Central rivals.
Pick: St. Louis
Los Angeles Dodgers at Toronto Blue Jays
When: Sunday, May 8 at 1:07 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: LAD- Clayton Kershaw vs TOR-Marco Estrada
Clayton Kershaw remains one of the top pitchers in MLB. As of May 1, Kershaw has a 2 and 1 record with a 2.00 ERA. His WHIP is an excellent .73. But the problem with betting on Clayton Kershaw is that you always have to invest a lot to make a little. The Dodgers are almost never better than a -200 favorite when Kershaw is on the mound.
Could the Toronto Blue Jays upset the Dodgers with their ace, Marco Estrada, on the mound? Yes, it is. Estrada will have to continue to pitch well. He has a sub 3.00 ERA. In order for the Jays to beat Kershaw and the Dodgers on Sunday, Estrada will have to keep it close enough for the Blue Jays excellent batters to take down L.A.’s suspect bullpen. If Estrada can do that, Toronto should win this matchup.
