With two weeks remaining the 2015 MLB regular season, action is at a tipping point. The post-season picture still has room shift and that means there are several competitive MLB games to bet on in week 25. Here are my picks.
New York Yankees at Toronto
When: Wednesday, Sept 23rd
The Yankees will try and cut into Toronto’s lead by sending Masahiro Tanaka to the mound. Tanaka has had a decent season so far going 12 and 7 with a 3.38 ERA and a .99 WHIP. He’s one of the few pitchers in baseball that can shut down Toronto’s high-powered offense. The Blue Jays bat only .183 versus Tanaka. They only have 24 hits from 131 at-bats.
Toronto counters with Marcus Stroman. One of last year’s top rookies, Stroman is equally adept at shutting down Yankee bats as Tanaka is at shutting down Blue Jay bats. Stroman has allowed 11 hits from 65 at-bats.
The Blue Jays have gone 7 and 3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams. Stroman gave up 4 hits and 3 earned runs the last time he faced the Yankees. While Stroman struggled the last time he faced the Yankees, Tanaka didn’t struggle the last time he faced the Blue Jays. Tanaka allowed 4 hits and no runs.
He figures to do the same thing on Wednesday. Go with the Yankees to win this game.
Pick: New York Yankees

Tampa Bay at Toronto
When: Friday, Sept 25th
Two days later, Toronto faces Tampa Bay. Like Tanaka, Tampa pitcher Jake Odorizzi has done very well against the Blue Jays. He’s given up 14 hits from 73 at-bats for a .192 batting average. The Jays have hit only 3 home runs off of Odorizzi.
As good as Odorizzi has been, the Rays face an uphill battle against knuckle baller R.A. Dickey. Dickey’s overall numbers haven’t been impressive this season, but he usually shuts down Tampa Bay batters. Dickey has allowed 53 hits from 221 at-bats. The batting average against Dickey is .240.
The Blue Jays went 2 and 1 the last time they faced Tampa Bay in a 3-game series. One of the victories was against Odorizzi. History should repeat itself on Friday.
Pick: Toronto Blue
Pittsburgh at Chicago Cubs
When: Sunday, Sept 27th
A great NL Central battle takes place on Sunday when Pittsburgh faces the Chicago Cubs. Pittsburgh’s A.J. Burnett is having a decent season, but the Cubs have his number. Chicago bats a huge .365 against Burnett. They’ve got 50 hits from 137 at-bats. 3 of the 50 hits have gone for home runs. Kris Bryant bats .714 versus Burnett.
The Cubs counter with pitcher Jason Hammel. Hammel has had much more success versus Pittsburgh than Burnett has had versus Chicago. Hammel’s allowed a .239 batting average. It’s tough to look past Chicago and Burnett in this matchup. Go with the Cubs.
Pick: Chicago Cubs
