MLB Betting Analysis April 1-7
Texas Rangers at L.A. Angels
When: Saturday, April 6 at 4:05pm ET
Where: Angel Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, CA
Analysis: Rangers starter Drew Smyly threw against the Cubs on March 31. He’s been a mainstay in the AL for several years, mainly with Detroit and Tampa Bay. Although he’s played American League teams most of his career, he’s only faced the Angels 42 times. The Angels bat .286 against Smyly.
To make things more difficult for the Rangers in this game, the Angels list Tyler Skaggs as their starter. Skaggs has a 3.86 ERA this season. He’s only pitched 4.2 innings, but he looked good doing it. Texas has a .296 batting average versus Skaggs, though. The Rangers will be worth a look on Saturday.
Pick: Texas Rangers
Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers
When: Saturday, April 6 at 7:10pm ET
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, WI
Analysis: Cole Hamels got drubbed in his first start of the season. Facing his former team, the Texas Rangers, Hamels got lit up with 5 earned runs off 6 hits in 5 innings pitched. Cole will look to turn it around on April 6 when he faces the rival Milwaukee Brewers.
The Brew Crew list Corbin Brunes as their Saturday starter. If the name isn’t familiar, there’s a reason. Brunes is 24-years-old. The Cardinals belted Brunes for 4 earned runs off 6 hits in 5 innings.
The Cubs should do the same. It’s going to take Brunes a few games to get back on track. Cole Hamels should need one, maybe, two, bullpen sessions to get back on track. A different Cole Hamels will show up on Saturday and that should lead to a Chicago Cubs win.
Pick: Chicago Cubs
L.A. Dodgers at Colorado Rockies
When: Sunday, April 7 at 8:30pm ET
Where: Coors Field, Denver, CO
Analysis: The Dodgers hope to turn Julio Urias into a starting pitcher this season. Urias gets the call on Sunday versus the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. It will be his second start of the season after battling the Arizona Cardinals on March 31.
The Rockies have only faced Urias 23 times. They bat .304 against him. He’s got a devastating fastball that, so far, Colorado’s been able to hit. The Rockies could have an edge in this with Chad Bettis. Outside of Justin Turner, Bettis has controlled the Dodgers when he’s faced them. Colorado wins.
Pick: Colorado Rockies
