MLB Betting Analysis July 29-Aug 4

Baseball is heating up with the trade headline on the horizon. Expect players to prove their worth to their current and future teams. With that in mind use my analysis for a trio of MLB betting picks for this week.

MLB Betting Analysis July 29-Aug 4

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals
When:  Wednesday, July 31 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO
TV: ESPN

Analysis: Cubs-Cardinals is one of the great rivalries in MLB. On Wednesday, the Cubs plan on starting Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks has a 3.26 ERA, a 7-8 record, and a 1.13 WHIP. He’s held St. Louis to a .248 batting average from 254 at-bats.

St. Louis has scheduled Miles Mikolas to start. Mikolas is 7-10 with a 4.19 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He’s faced the Cubs 118 times. The Cubbies bat .246 versus Miles. Mikolas has faced the Cubs twice this season. In the first game, he pitched brilliantly. He only allowed a single earned run off 6 hits in 7 innings.

But, in the second matchup versus the Cubs, Mikolas failed. He threw 4 innings and gave up 3 earned runs off 4 hits. Which Miles Mikolas will show up on Wednesday? The good one. Mikolas has thrown well in his last 3 starts. He should carry that over to this Wednesday matchup.

Pick: St. Louis Cardinals

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees
When:  Saturday, August 3 at 1:05 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
TV: FS1

Analysis: Red Sox-Yankees takes place this weekend with Boston looking to upset the rival Yankees on the road in the Bronx. On Saturday, Boston starts Chris Sale. Sale has a 4.00 ERA and 1.08 WHIP. That’s not bad.

What is bad is how Sale is only 5-9 on the season. Historically, Sale throws well against the Yankees. They only have a .225 batting average against him. In the only start versus NYY, though, he gave up 4 earned runs off 7 hits in 6 innings.

The Yankees wanted to start CC Sabathia on Saturday. They placed him on IR on July 28. It doesn’t matter who New York starts because Sale should have his best stuff.  Boston wins.

Pick: Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees
When:  Sunday, August 4 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
TV: ESPN

Analysis: Boston ace David Price has decent stats: 3.66 ERA, 7-4 record, and a 1.19 WHIP. Boston was winning every time Price stepped to the mound. Since a 6-1 streak in the previous 7 games, the Red Sox have gone 0-3 in Price’s last 3 starts.

Domingo German takes the mound for the Yankees. German is 12-2 this season. Boston handled German the last time they faced him. They scored 3 runs off him in only 3.2 innings. But, German has been more consistent than Price this season. The Yankees win on Sunday.

Pick: New York Yankees
