MLB Expert Picks April 2-8Josh Bailey
My MLB Expert Picks for April 2 through April 8 starts on Thursday when the New York Mets travel to Washington to battle the Nationals. Who takes it in a key NL East battle?
On Saturday, the San Francisco Giants host the top rival L.A. Dodgers. Will the Giants or Dodgers come out on top at AT&T Park?
The final game that makes my MLB expert picks list has Texas hosting Toronto. Can the Texas Rangers hold off Toronto at home?
MLB Expert Picks April 2-8
New York Mets at Washington
When: Thursday, April 5 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Nationals Park, Washington, DC
Analysis: Both teams’ aces are scheduled to take the mound on April 5. The New York Mets send Jacob deGrom out to the mound. Washington has Stephen Strasburg pitching. Which top pitcher comes out ahead?
The Nationals only bat .216 versus Jacob deGrom. He’s held Washington in check from 162 at-bats. Strasburg can’t say the same about holding the Mets in check. For some reason, the Mets punish Strasburg every time he takes the mound.
NYM bats .282 against Stephen Strasburg. That’s from 209 at-bats. The batting average is legit enough for me to say the Mets win this game by at least 2 runs.
Pick: New York Mets
L.A. Dodgers at San Francisco
When: Saturday, April 7 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
Analysis: The Dodgers are scheduled to start Rich Hill while San Francisco is scheduled to start Chris Stratton. Hill’s first start is on April 1. You guessed it if you believe he battles Chris Stratton on April Fool’s Day.
San Francisco bats .301 versus Rich Hill. That’s why I believe the Giants get it done on April 7. I’m not even worried what happens on April 1 because that game takes place at Dodgers Stadium.
The Giants are better at AT&T Park than they are at Dodger Stadium.
Pick: San Francisco
Toronto at Texas
When: Sunday, April 8 at 3:05 pm ET
Where: Global Life Park, Arlington, TX
Analysis: Toronto pitcher Jaime Garcia will try to beat Texas ace Cole Hamels on Sunday. Garcia has faced only a single Texas batter during his career. That batter, Shin-Soo Choo, has 2 hits in 8 at-bats.
Shin-Soo Choo won’t beat Toronto by himself while no other Texas batter has an idea of how to take down Garcia. That leads me to believe that Toronto at Texas on Sunday is a great game to take a shot at what should be a huge dog.
The Blue Jays can get to Cole Hamels while Texas might have trouble getting to Garcia. I’m backing the Jays on the money line in this matchup.
