MLB Expert Picks Aug 26-Sept 3

Seattle at Oakland
When: Thursday, Aug. 30 at 10:05 pm ET
Where: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA
TV: ESPN+

Analysis: Seattle starter Erasmo Ramirez is 0-2 with a 5.49 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. Although he only pitched 5 innings in each of his last couple of starts, Seattle beat Houston and the L.A. Dodgers. Ramirez appears to have finally found his groove. It might not matter. Ramirez could pitch great up to his 5 innings, but Oakland still figures to beat Seattle on Thursday.

The A’s start Mike Fiers. Fiers is 2-0 with a no-decision in 3 starts as an Oakland A. His 3.21 ERA and 1.16 WHIP are both great. Seattle has had success versus Mike Fiers in the past. They bat .266 against him.

Fiers has one of the top bullpens in the American League backing him up, though. Even if he gets into trouble, the A’s bullpen will bail him out.

Pick: Oakland

Detroit at New York Yankees
When: Saturday, Sep. 1 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
TV: FS1

Analysis: Detroit starter Jordan Zimmerman has a 6-5 winning record even though the Tigers are 20.5 games behind Cleveland in the AL Central Division standings. Zimmerman’s managed to pitch well in most starts.

The Yankees bat .284 versus Zimmerman, though. Giancarlo Stanton has 7 home runs from 32 at-bats. Didi Gregorius has 6 hits from 16 at-bats and Aaron Judge is 3 of 6 versus Zimmerman with only a single strikeout.

Zimmerman is in tough on Saturday. Detroit’s bullpen won’t bail out the veteran pitcher. New York’s the play.

Pick: New York Yankees

L.A. Angels at Houston
When: Sunday, Sep. 2 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX
TV: ESPN

Analysis: Neither the Angels nor the Astros have said who starts in this Sunday matchup. That doesn’t mean we can’t get an idea of who wins.
The Angels are 2-4 SU in 6 games versus Houston this season. In the first 3-game series in May, the Angels won the first game. In the second 3-game series in July, the Angels won the last game.

Houston scheduled Just Verlander to start on Thursday, August 30. Gerrit Cole starts on Friday, August 31. Saturday’s starter is Charlie Morton. If the Astros don’t change anything, Sunday’s starter should be Lance McCullers Jr.

The Angels can beat Lance McCullers. Jr.

Pick: L.A. Angels
