The MLB season is chugging along towards October making it a great time to start betting on the hot favorites. I have a trio of expert baseball picks for the week of August 6th to the 12th.
MLB Expert Picks August 6 – 12
Seattle at Houston
When: Sunday, Aug. 12 at 2:10 pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX
Analysis: Seattle legend Felix Hernandez hasn’t had the best of seasons. King Felix has a 5.49 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. If he does start on Sunday versus top AL West squad Houston, things could get ugly.
The Astros bat .279 versus Felix. That’s from 197 at-bats, which means it’s going to be impossible for Hernandez to suddenly throw better against the Houston Astros. The fact that Houston starts top pitcher Charlie Morton should only add to the misery.
Houston should beat the rival Mariners by at least 2 runs on Sunday.
Pittsburgh at San Francisco
When: Sunday, Aug. 12 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
Analysis: Some MLB teams are lucky at finding starting pitchers. The San Francisco Giants might be one of those teams. On Sunday, they list 26-year-old Dereck Rodriguez as their starter versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Rodriguez has a 5 and 1 record. His ERA is a great 2.59 while his WHIP is an excellent 1.12. Rodriguez has never faced the Pirates. It won’t likely matter. When he’s stepped to the mound, the Giants have responded.
San Francisco is an excellent 8 and 2 straight up in their last 10 games. Pittsburgh hasn’t had a great season at the plate. That means San Francisco’s rising pitching star should help SF beat the Bucs by at least 2 runs.
Pick: San Francisco
Washington at Chicago Cubs
When: Sunday, August 12 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Wrigley Field, Chicago, IL
Analysis: The Cubs aren’t afraid to pull the trigger. They did it again before the trade deadline by acquiring Cole Hamels. Hamels hasn’t had a great season. That could be because he played for a terrible team, the Texas Rangers.
Now, he plays for one of the best teams in MLB. The Cubs face the awesome Max Sherzer on Sunday. Chicago’s hit well against Scherzer, which means they might do just enough to help Cole to another win, just like they did when laying 9 onto the Pirates on August 1.
Pick: Chicago Cubs
