MLB Expert Picks July 30 – Aug 5

The 2018 NFL preseason kicks off this week, but if you want action on games with consequences then use my MLB expert betting picks for the week of July 30th to August 5th, 2018.

MLB Expert Picks July 30 – Aug 5

Houston Astros at L.A. Dodgers
When:  Friday, Aug. 3 at 10:00 pm ET
Where: Dodgers Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

Analysis: Friday’s battle between the Houston Astros and L.A. Dodgers could be a preview of this fall’s World Series. What makes the game even more interesting is that star pitcher Justin Verlander takes the mound for the Astros.

Verlander’s faced Dodger batters 99 times. The Dodgers hit .263 against Justin. That’s not bad. It’s definitely better than what most teams hit versus the awesome Verlander.

The Dodgers list Alex Wood as their Friday starter. The Dodgers have responded when Wood has taken the mound. LAD is 7 and 3 straight up in Wood’s last 10 starts. Houston’s only faced Wood 17 times. That might give him an edge in this.

Pick: L.A. Dodgers

New York Yankees at Boston
When:  Saturday, Aug. 4 at 4:05 pm ET
Where: Fenway Park, Boston, MA

Analysis: Recently acquired pitcher J.A. Happ is scheduled to throw for the New York Yankees against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Happ’s had a good season.

His ERA is a decent 4.05. His WHIP is a good 1.15. Happ’s record of 11 and 6 means that he was Toronto’s top starter. The fact that Happ recorded that winning record with the Blue Jays means that he should be even more effective with the Yankees.

The Yankees will give Happ enough run support because they face Nathan Eovaldi. The Yankees should beat Boston by at least 2 runs.

Pick: New York Yankees

San Francisco at Arizona
When: Sunday, August 5 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ

Analysis: Because competition to win the NL West is stiff every game is a must win for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The D’Backs hope that flame thrower Robbie Ray gets back on track against the rival San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Ray hasn’t been great this season. To be fair, the D’Backs haven’t backed up Robbie the way that they could. Arizona is a bad 1 and 4 in Ray’s last 5 starts.

The Giants aren’t a great team. But, with Ray struggling, and the D’Backs failing to give him much run support, San Francisco should win this Sunday afternoon matchup.

Pick: San Francisco
