MLB Expert Picks July 9-July 15

Kansas City at Minnesota
When:  Wednesday, July 11 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Target Field, Minneapolis, MN

Analysis: KC lists their Wednesday starter as Jason Hammel. Hammel’s been rocked on more than a few occasions this season. His record is an atrocious 2 and 11 while his ERA is 6.16.  The 1.61 WHIP doesn’t help.

The Royals have gone 0 and 6 in Hammel’s last 6 starts. Things shouldn’t get much better for Hammel on July 11. Minnesota has 36 hits, 6 being home runs, from 115 at-bats versus Jason Hammel. That translates to a .313 batting average.

The Twins should win by at least 4 runs on Wednesday.

Pick: Minnesota

Texas at Baltimore
When:  Saturday, July 14 at 7:15 pm ET
Where: Camden Yards, Baltimore, MD

Analysis: The Orioles haven’t listed a starter for their Saturday matchup with Texas. The Rangers list their starter as Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Bibens-Dirkx has 5 starts this season. His record is 1 and 2 with a no-decision.

Baltimore’s only faced Bibens-Dirkx 25 times. The Orioles have 8 hits off Texas’ Saturday starter. One thing to note is that when Bibens-Dirkx faced Baltimore he was a reliever. That could change the dynamic on July 14.

Texas is just a better team than Baltimore. They should come out with the win.

Pick: Texas

L.A. Angels at L.A. Dodgers
When: Sunday, July 15 at 4:00 pm ET
Where: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA

Analysis: The Dodgers are undecided as to who their starter will be in Sunday’s game versus the crosstown rival Angels. The Angels head to Dodger Stadium this weekend. It won’t matter much because the Angels are close enough to Dodger Stadium that their fans will make the trip.

LAA is likely to start Garrett Richards. Richards’ 3.42 ERA and 1.26 WHIP aren’t bad. He’s had good success versus Dodger batters even though he’s only faced them 42 times. Richards has allowed 8 hits from 42 at-bats.

He’s struck out 15 Dodger hitters from those 42 at-bats. No matter who the Dodgers start on Sunday, the Angels’ batting lineup is just better than LAD’s.

The L.A. Angels are the play in this matchup.

Pick: L.A. Angels
