MLB Expert Picks June 18-24

Kansas City at Houston
When:  Saturday, June 23 at 7:15 pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX

Analysis:  KC pitcher Brad Keller has decent stats. His ERA is a nice 2.63 while his WHIP is a decent 1.34. What’s really great about Keller is that he’s given up a single home run in over 41 innings pitched. That’s a nice stat to have.

The problem for Keller is that although he puts together nice efforts, his teammates don’t reward him with runs. In Keller’s last 11.1 innings pitched, he’s allowed a total of 5 runs. That hasn’t been enough for Kansas City to give him a win.

KC lost to 2 to 3 to Oakland on June 10. On June 17, they lost 4 to 7 to Houston. Nothing should change in this game. The Astros should beat the Royals by at least 3 runs again.

Pick: Houston

L.A. Dodgers at New York Mets
When:  Saturday, June 23 at 7:15 pm ET
Where: Citi Field, New York, NY

Analysis: The Dodgers are undecided. It won’t matter. Even though the New York Mets start Jacob deGrom in this game on Saturday, it will be hard for the Mets to beat the Dodgers.

The reason is simple. It’s not deGrom’s fault. His ERA is a 1.55 while his WHIP is a masterful 1.01. Heck, Jacob even has a winning record at 4 and 2. However, every time deGrom leaves the game, Mets’ opponents rally.

The Mets have lost 5 in a row where Jacob deGrom started. It’s difficult to see deGrom doing enough for the Mets to beat the Dodgers on June 23 unless he pitches a complete game.

Pick: L.A. Dodgers

Toronto at L.A. Angels
When: Sunday, June 24 at 4:07 pm ET
Where: Angels Stadium of Anaheim, Anaheim, CA

Analysis: The Toronto Blue Jays will be huge underdogs versus the L.A. Angels on Sunday. They should be. The Jays list Jaime Garcia as their starter. Garcia has a 5.71 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP.

That’s not even the worst part. The worst part is that Garcia is 2 and 5 on the season. Toronto has gone 1 and 4 in Garcia’s last 5 starts.

21-year-old Jaime Barria is listed as the L.A. Angels’ starter. Barria’s 2.61 ERA should be plenty good enough to handle Toronto. I believe L.A. wins this one by at least 3 runs.

Pick: L.A. Angels
