MLB Expert Picks June 4-10
Miami at St. Louis
When: Thursday, June 7 at 1:15 pm ET
Where: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO
Analysis: The Miami Marlins list Elieser Hernandez as their Thursday starter. Hernandez is 0 and 3 with a 4.29 ERA. His WHIP is an okay 1.33. He’s never faced the St. Louis Cardinals.
Often, that would work in a pitcher’s favor. Not so on Thursday. Hernandez could get pummeled on Thursday by a Cardinals squad that believes it can win the NL Central Division. I believe the Cards beat the Marlins by at least 2 runs.
Pick: St. Louis
Houston at Texas
When: Friday, June 8 at 8:05 pm ET
Where: Globe Life Park, Arlington, TX
Analysis: Justin Verlander battles Doug Fister in a Friday match up on ESPN+ this week. Verlander, one of Houston’s aces, hold the Rangers to a .210 batting average. Verlander has a 1.24 ERA and a .72 WHIP.
Fister’s ERA is 4.09. His WHIP is 1.45. His 1 and 5 record isn’t that great. All of it adds up to Houston most likely dominating the Rangers on Friday. The Stros should beat the Rangers by 3 to 4 runs in this.
Baltimore at Toronto
When: Saturday, June 9 at 1:07 pm ET
Where: Rogers Centre, Toronto, ON, CA
Analysis: Baltimore listed starter Kevin Gausman is 3 and 5 this season. His ERA of 4.63 doesn’t look like much. For the Orioles, that’s a great ERA. His WHIP is only 1.40. Again, for the O’s that’s not bad at all.
Gausman has faced Toronto batters 171 times. The Blue Jays have 51 hits, 6 being home runs. Gausman has struck out 36 Toronto batters. He’s walked 20, though. What’s Toronto’s batting average versus Kevin Gausman? It’s .298, which means that Gusman is up against it in this road match on Saturday.
Toronto should have no trouble beating the Baltimore Orioles by around 2 to 4 runs.
