MLB Best Bets July 24-31

MLB Expert Betting Picks May 23-30

This week’s MLB expert betting picks include one of the top prized free agents during the off-season. Everyone was in love with Zach Greinke in Arizona when he signed a contract to be the ace in the Diamondbacks’ rotation.

The love has left a bit now. But Greinke faces a relatively soft team in the San Diego Padres this Saturday. Will Greinke show AZ fans why investing in him was the right thing to do?  The MLB Best Bets actually start on Friday when the L.A. Dodgers take on the New York Mets. I also like the looks of the Dodgers versus Mets game on Sunday when Dodgers’ ace Clayton Kershaw goes to the mound.

A Closer Look At My MLB Expert Betting Picks May 23-30

Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets
When: Friday, May 27 at 7:10 pm ET
TV: MLB Net
Listed Pitchers: LAD-Alex Wood vs NYM-Jacob DeGrom

Even though he hasn’t been 100% this season, Jacob DeGrom has done enough to go 3 and 1 with a 3.07 ERA. His WHIP of 1.24 isn’t as strong as many would like. Versus the Dodgers, DeGrom has allowed a .222 batting average from 72 at-bats.

Alex Wood for the Dodgers has proven to be a less than reliable arm for the Dodgers this season. He doesn’t fit L.A. well because the Dodgers don’t have a good enough bullpen to bail out Wood when he needs it. Wood’s ERA is 4.03. His WHIP is 1.25. The Mets have a good .275 average versus Wood from over 100 at-bats. I like DeGrom and the Mets.

Pick: New York Mets

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks
When: Saturday, May 28 at 10:10 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: SD-Collin Rea vs AZ-Zach Greinke

It sure is tough to back Collin Rea versus Zach Greinke on Saturday. After all, Rea has a 4.47 ERA, a 1.37 WHIP and a 3 and 2 record. But Rea might have an advantage over the Diamondbacks in this game because he hasn’t faced any of their batters. Usually, the advantage goes to the pitcher in those situations.

Zach Greinke has a 4.59 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He has a winning 5 and 3 record. Plus, against the Padres, he’s allowed a 2.04 batting average from 211 at-bats. Unfortunately, most of that occurred when Greinke pitched at Chavez Ravine, a much kinder ballpark to pitchers than Chase Field. I think that Greinke has a tough time on Saturday. I like the Padres to upset AZ on the road.

Pick: San Diego Padres

Los Angeles Dodgers at New York Mets
When: Sunday, May 29 at 8:00 pm ET
TV: ESPN
Listed Pitchers:  LAD- Clayton Kershaw vs NYM-Bartolo Colon

Clayton Kershaw looks to be on his way for yet another Cy Young Award dinner this season. Kershaw has a 1.67 ERA, a 6 and 1 record, and a .70 WHIP. To make matters more difficult for the Mets in this matchup, Bartolo Colon hasn’t pitched well in his last couple of starts. Colon has given up 8 runs and 12 hits, 2 of them being home runs, in his last 9.2 inning pitched. There’s no reason to get fancy. Kershaw and the Dodgers all the way.

Pick: Los Angeles Dodgers
