MLB Must Bet On Games May 9-15

Another terrific week of baseball action is on tap. My best bets start on Wednesday, May 11 when the Kansas City Royals travel to New York to battle the Yankees. The game takes place on ESPN. I believe that I might have a winner in Saturday’s battle between the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks. On Sunday, my final best bet of the week takes place when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the St. Louis Cardinals.

Analyzing My MLB Must Bet On Games May 9th-15th

Kansas City Royals at New York Yankees
When: Wednesday, May 11 at 7:00 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: KC-Yordano Ventura vs NYY-Michael Pineda

Young Kansas City pitcher Yordana Ventura hasn’t had the best 2016 so far. His ERA is a less than stellar 4.65 while his WHIP is at 1.58. He’s only lasted 4 innings in each of his last 2 starts. Both were losses. But facing the Yankees in a small number of at-bats, Ventura has been terrific. He’s allowed a .171 batting average and 6 hits from 35 at-bats.

Michael Pineda has had a worse 2016 than Yordano Ventura has had. Pineda, who was terrific to begin the season last year, sits on a 5.73 ERA, a 1 and 3 record and a 1.58 WHIP. But Pineda appeared to turn it around some in his last start. He gave up only 2 hits and 2 earned runs in 6 innings of work. New York beat Boston 3 to 2. I like Pineda to build off of that win. He should handle Kansas City on Wednesday.

Pick: New York Yankees

San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks
When: Saturday, May 14 at 8:10 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: SF-Jake Peavy vs AZ-Patrick Corbin

I love the looks of Arizona in their battle against San Franisco this Satuday. Arizona sends Patrick Corbin to the mound. Corbin has an okay 4.12 ERA to go along with his 1.28 WHIP. His record of 1 and 3 sure makes him look like the dog in his matchup with Jake Peavy.

I hope that Corbin is the dog because there’s no way that I’m backing Peavy and the Giants on Saturday. Peavy has had all sorts of issues this season. His ERA is 9.00. His WHIP is 1.90. He has a 1 and 3 record. In his last 8 innings pitched, he’s given up 12 hits and 13 earned runs. I think Arizona rolls on Saturday.

Pick: Arizona

St. Louis Cardinals at Los Angeles Dodgers
When: Sunday, May 15 at 8:00 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: STL-Mike Leake vs LAD-Alex Wood

Mike Leake has had all sorts of trouble this season. Leake’s 6.03 ERA, 0 and 3 record and 1.34 WHIP makes him a play against almost every time he steps onto the mound. The Dodgers haven’t hit well against Leake, though. Out of 105 at-bats, the Dodgers have only 24 hits. There batting average against Leake is .229.

The problem that the Dodgers will have in this game is that Alex Wood hasn’t been much better than Mike Leake. Woods has a 5.18 ERA, a 1 and 3 record and a 1.48 WHIP. I’d probably go with Wood and the Dodgers in this if not for the fact that St. Louis’s bullpen has a 3.39 ERA while the Dodgers’ bullpen has a 4.02 ERA.

I think it might come down to the bullpens, which means that I have to go with St. Louis.

Pick: St. Louis
