MLB Free Picks Aug 15-21Josh Bailey
Another great week in MLB betting could lead to nice profits. It so happens that every game that is on my best MLB betting picks list are nationally televised. On Wednesday, Boston battles Baltimore on ESPN. On Sunday, Boston takes on Detroit on TBS. Also on Sunday, the New York Mets send their ace to the mound to battle San Francisco.
Analyzing My MLB Free Picks August 15th-21st
Boston at Baltimore
When: Wednesday, Aug. 18 at 8:00 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: BOS-David Price vs BAL-Chris Tillman
Analysis: Boston’s David Price hasn’t been the rock solid starter in 2016 that so many envisioned him to be when the Red Sox decided to make him one of the richest players in all of sports. Price has a 4.29 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Price has faced Baltimore batters 303 times. He’s given up 81 hits. 8 of the hits were home runs.
Chris Tillman is having a terrific season. Tillman’s ERA is 3.46. His record is a fantastic 15 and 4. His WHIP is 1.21. Tillman has a 3.74 ERA at home. The ERA at home should be tempered some by the fact that Tillman holds Boston to a .221 batting average.
I like the Orioles in this matchup.
Pick: Baltimore Orioles
Boston at Detroit
When: Sunday, Aug. 21 at 1:10 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: BOS-Eduardo Rodriguez vs DET-Justin Verlander
Analysis: Boston starts Eduardo Rodriguez on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Rodriguez has a 5.43 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP. Detroit bats .302 versus Rodriguez. The Tigers counter with potential hall of fame pitcher Justin Verlander.
Verlander’s 3.42 ERA and 1.06 WHIP are both very good. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 earned runs in his last 8 starts. Verlander hasn’t pitched less than 6 innings in any of those last 8 starts. This includes allowing 1 run off of 5 hits versus the Red Sox in a 4 to 2 Detroit win on July 25. Verlander is on top of his game.
Even though that’s the case, Rodriguez hasn’t pitched badly in 4 out of his 5 last starts. In his last start, he allowed only 1 earned run off of 3 hits in 7 innings. I’m taking a shot on Rodriguez and the Red Sox to get the job done versus the hot Verlander on Sunday.
Pick: Boston Red Sox
NY Mets at San Francisco
When: Sunday, Aug. 21 at 8:00 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: NYM-Noah Syndergaard vs SF-Jeff Samardzija
What a game this figures to be on Sunday. The Mets may not catch the Washington Nationals in the NL East. They’re still in the running for a wildcard. There’s a single game as of August 14 between the Giants and the Dodgers for the NL West.
The Mets’ Noah Syndergaard, Thor in the flesh, has a 2.75 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP. He hasn’t been as sharp in his last 2 starts as he was earlier in the season. Syndergaard has allowed 7 earned runs from 15 hits in his last 11 innings pitched. He lost both of the games.
The Giants counter with Jeff Samardzija. Samardzija is a decent pitcher. After 3 straight losses, he finally got back into the win column with a 5.2 innings, 3 hit and 0 earned run game versus Miami. He might be able to work that into a second straight win on August 21.
Pick: San Francisco Giants
