MLB Free Picks June 13-19Josh Bailey
This week my MLB free picks start with a major game between 2 AL East rivals. Baltimore travels to hitter friendly Fenway Park to battle the high-scoring Boston Red Sox. That game takes place on Wednesday, June 15. On Saturday, June 18, the Washington Nationals send one of their top pitchers to the mound in a game versus San Diego. My final MLB pick of the week takes place in Sunday’s feature, a throw down between NL Central foes Pittsburgh and Chicago.
MLB Free Picks June 13-19
Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox
When: Wednesday, June 15 at 7:00pm ET
Listed Pitchers: BAL-Tyler Wilson vs BOS-Steven Wright
Pitcher Tyler Wilson has a 4.73 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He hasn’t pitched that badly versus Boston hitters. One of the reasons for his success is that Boston batters have only seen Wilson 40 times. He’s allowed a .250 ERA.
For the Red Sox side, pitcher Steven Wright has been a revelation. Wright has a 7 and 4 record. His ERA of 2.09 is best on the team while his WHIP of 1.13 is under the 1.20 cut-off required by the top pitchers. But Wright isn’t as good at home as he is on the road. Fenway is an easy park in which to hit. That could pose problems for Boston who face a home run hitting team in the Orioles.
I think the O’s pull off the upset.
Pick: Baltimore Orioles
Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres
When: Saturday, June 18 at 10:10pm ET
Listed Pitchers: WAS-Max Scherzer vs SD-Colin Rea
This is sort of a no-brainer pick. Scherzer was awesome in his last start versus the Chicago White Sox when giving up 5 runs and 0 hits in 7 innings. He does pitch before this Saturday battle with the Padres, but it won’t matter unless he gets hurt. Sherzer should lock down SD in Petco Park.
The reasons are simple. For starters, Sherzer has only allowed 14 hits from 111 San Diego at-bats. He’s given up 1 home run and he’s struck out 25. San Diego’s ERA is 1.26 versus Scherzer. Not only that, but batters hit only .247 at pitcher friendly Petco Park. Nationals all the way in this matchup.
Pick: Washington Nationals
Pittsburgh Pirates at Chicago Cubs
When: Sunday, June 19 at 8:00pm ET
Listed Pitchers: PIT-Juan Nicasio vs CHIC-Kyle Hendricks
It’s been tough for Pittsburgh pitcher Juan Nicasio this season. His overall ERA of 5.34 and WHIP of 1.44 aren’t very good. The last time that he faced the Cubs, Nicasio allowed 4 earned runs off of 9 hits in only 4.1 innings pitched.
The Cubs’ Kyle Hendricks continues to impress with a 2.90 ERA and a sweet .94 WHIP. The Pirates do bat .264 against him. But Nicasio is having so many issues that if he takes the mound for the Bucs, I just don’t see the Cubs losing this one.
Pick: Chicago Cubs
