MLB Free Picks Sept 12-18Josh Bailey
Who will win when Baltimore battles Boston in a huge AL East Division game on Wednesday, Sept. 14? That’s the highlight of this week. I also pick a winner between Detroit and Cleveland and between the Yankees and the Red Sox. Can Cleveland put more distance between itself and Detroit in the AL Central? Who will win when the greatest rivalry in all of sports takes place this weekend?
MLB Free Picks Sept 12-18
Baltimore at Boston
When: Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7:00 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: BAL-Kevin Gausman vs BOS-Rick Porcello
Analysis: Baltimore at Boston is one of the key series of the week. Boston, Baltimore and Toronto are all within a couple of games of each other in the NL East. Out of the 3, Toronto has the momentum.
That’s why every battle between Boston and Baltimore is important. In Wednesday’s game, Boston sends 20 game winner Rick Porcello to the mound. Porcello has a chance to win the AL Cy Young this season. It would help Porcello’s cause if he could stop Baltimore from scoring runs against him on Wednesday.
That won’t be easy for Porcello to do. The Orioles bat .294 against RP. From 211 at-bats, they have 62 hits. They have 9 home runs and 30 RBIs to only 44 strike-outs. I’m not even going to look at Gausman’s numbers. I know that Porcello will be the favorite in this. I’m taking the contrarian point-of-view.
Detroit at Cleveland
When: Sunday, Sept. 18 at 1:10 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: DET-Daniel Norris vs CLE-Trevor Bauer
Analysis: The Detroit Tigers are in the chase for a wildcard berth. Cleveland has a healthy 7 game lead over Detroit in the AL Central. What it means is that the Indians are all but assured a spot in the playoffs.
That doesn’t mean that Cleveland won’t try in this matchup. Trevor Bauer continues to impress. Although his WHIP is somewhat high at 1.29, his ERA is very good at 3.86. More importantly, the Indians respond when Bauer is on the mound. His record is a nice 11 and 6.
Detroit does bat .304 against Bauer, which is why it’s important that I take a look at Detroit starter Daniel Norris in this matchup. Norris has faced Cleveland only 22 times. They batted .273 against him in those 22 at-bats. He gave up 6 hits, struck out 4 and walked 4.
Like Baltimore, Detroit strikes me as a dog with a shot. I’m going to back the Tigers on the moneyline in this game.
New York Yankees at Boston
When: Sunday, Sept. 18 at 8:00 pm ET
Listed Pitchers: NYY-CC Sabathia vs BOS-David Price
Analysis: Two old pros hit the mound this Sunday in the biggest rivalry in all of sports, Yankees vs Red Sox. The Yankees’ CC Sabathia has settled down some in his last 4 games. He hasn’t allowed more than 3 earned runs in any of those 4 games.
Unfortunately for Sabathia and the Yankees, David Price has turned it on in his last 6 starts. He’s allowed 3 runs in only 1 out of his last 6 starts. He hasn’t allowed more than 2 runs in his last 3 starts. Price is pitching like a man on a mission. Since Boston should have the bats, this one is easy. I’m going Boston on the run line.
Pick: Boston run line
