MLB Free Picks Sept 4-10

The first week of September brings interesting matchups. Many teams are still alive for postseason berths. That makes every game from here on out important.

Tampa Bay travels to Boston on Friday. Will the Red Sox beat the rival Rays to take a step closer to the AL Playoffs? On Saturday, St. Louis attempts to keep their slim hopes alive versus NL Central Division foe Pittsburgh. Then, on Sunday, Minnesota travels to KC in a game that could have implications on the wild card race in the American League.

MLB Free Picks Sept 4-10

Tampa Bay at Boston
When:  Friday, Sep. 8 at 7:10 pm ET
Where: Fenway Park, Boston, MA
Listed Pitchers: TB-Chris Archer vs BOS-Drew Pomeranz

Analysis: On Saturday, Sep. 2, Archer left in the first inning without recording an out. He claimed tightness in an elbow. Indications are that he should take the mound on Friday, Sep. 8.

Not that it matters. I’m going with Drew Pomeranz and the Boston Red Sox no matter who pitches on Friday. Pomeranz has been just okay in his last 2. I don’t believe it matters. His form should be on point against the Rays on Friday.

Drew’s 3.36 ERA should come into play during this game. I believe Boston turns the screws on the door to the playoffs by beating Tampa Bay by at least 2 runs on Friday.

Pick: Boston run line

Pittsburgh at St. Louis
When:  Saturday, Sep. 9 at 7:15 pm ET
Where: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, CA
Listed Pitchers: PIT-Chad Khul vs STL-Carlos Martinez

Analysis: It would take a miracle for Pitt to catch the Cubs in the NL Central. But at only 6.5 games behind, St. Louis still has a shot. Can the Cardinals beat Pittsburgh at home on Saturday?
Martinez’s 3.52 ERA isn’t bad at all. Versus the Pirates, Martinez has been horrible, though. The Bucs bat a ridiculous .284 against Martinez.

Pitt listed starter Chad Khul allows the Cardinals to bat .269 against him. Khul hasn’t reached past the 5th inning in 4 straight starts. Martinez got belted in his last, but in his 2 starts before, he lasted all the way to the 7th.

I must back the Cardinals in this match up.

Pick: St. Louis money line

Minnesota at Kansas City
When:  Sunday, Sep. 10 at 2:15 pm ET
Where: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, CA
Listed Pitchers: MIN-Jose Berrios vs KC-Jason Vargs

Analysis: Minnesota and Kansas City battle it out on Sunday with the Twins sending Jose Berrios to the mound Berrios has a 3.80 ERA to go along with a 12 and 6 record. His WHIP of 1.13 is fantastic.
But, KC bats .357 against Berrios. That should be Minnesota’s undoing, right?

Not really. Jason Vargas allows the Twins to bat .304 against him. Vargas has been terrible in his last couple of starts. The 34-year-old might have already slowed down.

I believe Minnesota is the play.

Pick: Minnesota money line
