How To Bet The Houston Astros vs NY Yankees AL Wildcard Game

The baseball playoffs are only a few days away.  In the AL Wildcard Game, surprise Houston sends their best pitcher to the mound to battle New York.

But, New York isn’t letting their best pitcher sit in the dugout while Houston’s Dallas Keuchel throws strike after strike. New York’s Masahiro Tanaka is one of the top flamethrowers in the American League as well. Both teams have dreams of moving on to the Divisional Playoffs. That won’t happen unless they get out of this matchup with a victory.

Should you bet on the Astros or the fan-favorite Yankees to move on after the AL Wildcard Game?

Why Bet on Houston (-117) to Beat the New York Yankees (+107)

Left-handed pitcher Dallas Keuchel is a ground-ball machine who went 20-8 with a 2.48 ERA this season.

Dallas Keuchel had a great regular season. His ERA ended up at 2.48. He won 20 games and lost only 8. His WHIP ended up at 1.02. Keuchel dominated when he had to. He might be the primary reason why Houston, who was a huge long shot to even make the playoffs before the season started, garnered a Wildcard spot.

Versus the Yankees, Kuechel is even more money than he usually is. The Yankees bat only .206 against him. He’s allowed only 20 hits from 97 at-bats. If Kuechel has his best stuff going on Tuesday, it’s unlikely that the Yankees are going to exit this game with a win.

Why Bet on the New York Yankees (+107) to Beat Houston (-117)

This is A-Rod’s 76th career post-season game.

It’s tough to go against New York. The Yankees have been a resilient bunch this season. Tanaka was hurt earlier in the season. He came back and is now once again the Yankees’ ace. After Toronto made a bunch of trades that pretty much put them into the drivers’ seat in the AL East, the Yankees kept fighting until the final week.

New York spreads the wealth when it comes to batting. As a team, the Yankees bat .251. Carlos Beltran leads the team with a .276 batting average. Alex Rodriguez, playing in the DH spot, hit 33 home runs. Chase Headley led the team during the regular season with 150 hits and catcher Brian McCann batted in 94 runs.

But, the Yankees might need more than to get hot against Keuchel if they hope to win this game. Not only have they had trouble versus Keuchel, but Tanaka hasn’t been very good against Houston batters in limited at-bats.

The Astros have faced Tanaka 34 times. They have 11 hits, 3 home runs and 6 RBIs from those 34 at-bats. If Tanaka doesn’t switch it up versus the Astros, the Yankees could be in some trouble in this game. My final score prediction is Houston 6, New York 5.
