It is Fourth of July week and there is a trio of baseball games you need to mark down on your calendar.
MLB Betting Analysis July 1 – 7
Philadelphia Phillies at Atlanta Braves
When: Thursday, July 4 at 7:00pm ET
Where: SunTrust Park, Smyrna, GA
Analysis: The Philadelphia Phillies head to Atlanta to take on the Braves on July 4. Philly plans on starting Vince Velasquez. Velasquez hasn’t had the greatest season so far. His ERA is 4.73. His record is 2-5 while his WHIP is 1.42.
Velasquez also allows the Braves to hit .368 against him. Atlanta has 46 hits from 125 at-bats. They’ve launched 5 home runs. They’ve batted in 21 runs.
The Braves attempt to hold down Bryce Harper and the Phillies batting lineup with Mike Soroka. Soroka has a 9-1 record. His ERA is fantastic at 2.13. Atlanta is on a 6 game winning streak when Soroka starts.
Soroka should have no trouble containing the Phillies. Atlanta appears destined to win this one on the run line.
Pick: Atlanta Braves run line
L.A. Angels at Houston Astros
When: Saturday, July 6 at 7:15pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX
Analysis: On Saturday, Angels-Astros should be a competitive matchup. The Angels haven’t decided who they’re going to start. Houston has penciled in Gerrit Cole as their starter.
Cole has pitched well this season. He has a 7-5 record to go along with a 1.05 WHIP. His ERA is a very good 3.42. Although Cole is having a good season, he faces a team on July 6 that has had some success against him. Mike Trout bats .265, Andrelton Simmons bats .385, and Justin Upton bats .316.
Jonathan Lucroy bats .379. The Angels have a big shot to score enough runs against Cole to pull off the upset win.
Pick: L.A. Angels
New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays
When: Sunday, July 7 at 1:10pm ET
Where: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, FL
Analysis: New York hasn’t yet stated whom they will start on Sunday. Aaron Boone prefers to keep his starting rotation close to his chest. It might not matter who Boone starts against the Tampa Bay Rays, though.
The Yankees should easily beat the Rays on July 7 if Tampa starts Charlie Morton. The Rays’ listed starter has a nice 8-2 record. He also has a great 2.43 ERA and an equally impressive 1.05 WHIP.
However, Morton gives it up against the Yankees. Overall, New York bats .295 against him. The last time they faced Morton, they chased him off the mound after 4 innings. New York hit 2 home runs and scored 5 runs, 3 earned, versus Morton.
The Yankees beat the Rays on Sunday.
Pick: New York Yankees
