MLB Betting Analysis June 17-23

Baseball is the only North American major sport left standing and I have a trio of MLB games that you need to mark down on your calendar for this week.

MLB Betting Analysis June 17-23

San Francisco Giants at L.A. Dodgers
When: Wednesday, June 19 at 10:00pm ET
Where: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, CA
TV: ESPN

Analysis: Giants-Dodgers is one of the great rivalries in Major League Baseball. On Wednesday, the Giants intend to start former Boston Red Sox pitcher Drew Pomeranz. Pomeranz has had an awful season so far. His ERA is a terrible 6.43 while he’s got 2 wins and 6 losses. His WHIP is somewhat high at 1.73.

Although Pomeranz has been awful, he did throw well in his last couple of starts. Versus the Brewers on June 14, he threw 5.0 innings and gave up only 2 earned runs off 5 hits. The Giants won 5-3. Then against the Dodgers on June 7, Pomeranz gave up only 3 hits and no earned runs in 5 innings.

The Dodgers hope Rich Hill throws a gem. He probably should. The Dodgers have won the last 3 times Hill has started. Not only that, but Hill has a 2.60 ERA. This is a tough matchup to handicap because Pomeranz has thrown better in his last two starts, but Los Angeles should take it.

Pick: L.A. Dodgers

Atlanta Braves at Washington Nationals
When: Saturday, June 22 at 7:15pm ET
Where: Nationals Park, Washington, D.C.
TV: FOX

Analysis: Atlanta listed starter Mike Foltynewicz has not pitched great this season. In 2018, Foltynewicz was one of the Braves’ top starters. This season, he’s got a 5.53 ERA and a 2-5 record. What’s worse is that Atlanta is 2-7 in Foltynewicz’s 9 starts this season.

Washington counters Foltynewicz with Patrick Corbin. Corbin has a better ERA than Foltynewicz at 4.11, but the Nationals have lost 4 of Corbin’s last 5 starts. Washington’s bullpen has the league’s worst team ERA at 6.27.

Atlanta’s BP is decent. It has a 4.09 team ERA. This game should come down to the relievers, which means Atlanta wins. They might even win by 2.

Pick: Atlanta Braves

Houston Astros at New York Yankees
When: Saturday, June 22 at 7:15pm ET
Where: Yankees Stadium, Bronx, NY
TV: FOX

Analysis: Houston travels to the Bronx to take on the Yankees in a huge matchup. Houston leads the AL West. The Yankees lead the AL East. Saturday’s matchup pits the Astros Wade Miley versus the Yankees Masahiro Tanaka.

Miley has folded right into the Stros’ rotation. His ERA is a great 3.14 while his record is 6-3, and his WHIP is 1.16. Although Miley has pitched well, the Yankees bat .385 against him. That doesn’t bode well for Miley’s chances on Saturday.

Then again, the Astros hit .366 against Masahiro Tanaka. Houston will have a shot to win while offering underdog odds. Both pitchers could throw great. Or, both could throw badly. It makes sense to back the team offering the better odds, that’s Houston.

Pick: Houston Astros
