MLB Best Bets Sept 18 – 25

Your best MLB bets this week don’t start until Friday, Sep. 22.

I like one of the teams in the battle between the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers. Will Chicago take it? On Sunday, the Cubs battle the Brewers again in an afternoon game where ace Jon Lester takes the mound. Will the Cubs beat the Brewers in the final game of this weekend’s series? The final game I like this week also takes place on Sunday. Can the Angels keep pace in the wildcard playoff race by taking down the Houston Astros?

MLB Best Bets Sep 18 – 25

Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee
When:  Friday, Sep.22 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, WI
Listed Pitchers: CHIC – Jose Quintana vs MIL – Brandon Woodruff

Analysis: Jose Quintana’s September hasn’t been awful. He allowed 0 earned runs in 6 innings on Sep. 6. On Sep. 12, he allowed only 2 earned runs in 7 innings. Then, in his last start on Sep. 17, Quintana gave up 3 earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

Quintana’s effectiveness isn’t the only reason to like the Cubs in this match up on Friday. Chicago’s gone 6 and 1 straight up in Jose Quintana’s last 7 starts. I believe they make it 7 out of 8 on Friday.

Pick: Chicago Cubs money line

Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee
When:  Sunday, Sep. 24 at 2:00 pm ET
Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee, WI
Listed Pitchers: CHIC – Jon Lester vs MIL – Chase Anderson

Analysis: Chicago ace Jon Lester takes the mound versus the Brewers on Sunday, Sep. 24. Lester has a 4.30 ERA. His WHIP is 1.31. Those aren’t good stats. What it good about Lester is that he’s 11 and 7 on the season.

Lester’s form might be turning around. The Cubs’ ace has been fantastic in his last 2 starts. On September 7, he pitched 6 innings and gave up 1 earned run. On September 13, he pitched 6 innings and gave up 2 earned runs.

If Lester’s form has turned around, I don’t think it matters much. Brewer starter Chase Anderson’s 2.88 ERA is solid. Not only that, the last time Anderson faced the Cubs, Milwaukee beat Chicago 15 to 2.

I like the Brewers.

Pick: Milwaukee money line

L.A. Angels at Houston
When:  Sunday, Sep. 24 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston, TX
Listed Pitchers: LAA – Tyler Skaggs vs HOU – Collin McHugh

Analysis: Angels’ pitcher Tyler Skaggs has a 2 and 5 record. The last time he faced the Astros he was unbelievable, though. Skaggs pitched 7 innings. He gave up 3 hits and 0 runs. The Angels beat the Stros 9 to 1.

Collin McHugh was almost just as good versus the Angels the last time he faced them. McHugh allowed 1 earned run off 3 hits in 6 innings versus the Angels on August 25. It was a fantastic performance.

One thing to note is that when McHugh pitched his great game, the Angels lost 1 to 2. That’s a big difference from what the Angels did in Skaggs’ game on the mound.

It’s also the reason I like the L.A. Angels on the money line.

Pick: L.A. Angels money line
