MLB Picks Sept 25 – Oct 1

The MLB regular season is winding down in the first days of autumn. With the playoffs around the corner, I have a handful of free MLB betting picks for you to cash in on this week.

MLB Picks Sept 25th – Oct 1st

Can the Chicago Cubs nail down the NL Central Division title by beating the rival St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday? What’s going to happen when AL West Division winner Houston tackles the Boston Red Sox on Saturday? While Boston battles Houston, the New York Yankees will attempt to wrestle away the AL East Division from the Red Sox. Can the Yankees beat the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday, Sept. 30?

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis
When:  Wednesday, Sep. 27 at 7:00 pm ET
Where: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO
TV:  ESPN
Listed Pitchers: CHIC – John Lackey vs STL – Michael Wacha

Analysis: The Cubs are 5.5 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Central. St. Louis is only 6 games behind the Cubs in the NL Central.

Cubs’ listed starter John Lackey has a 1-2-4 record in his last 7 starts. That shouldn’t inspire confidence. What will inspire confidence is that the Cubbies are 11 and 2 straight up in their last 13 games where Lackey starts.

That tells me Lackey doesn’t have to pitch a great game for Chicago to win on Wednesday. I like the Cubs.

Pick: Chicago Cubs money line

Houston at Boston
When:  Saturday, Sep. 30 at 1:05 pm ET
Where: Fenway Park, Boston, MA
TV: FOX
Listed Pitchers: HOU – Lance McCullers Jr. vs BOS – Drew Pomeranz

Analysis:  Lance McCullers Jr. figures to use this game to get his arm back together. McCullers has had only 2 starts since July 30. He’s not ready for the AL Playoffs.

What it means is that Houston won’t push for the victory here. The Astros know that the only way to beat Cleveland in the playoffs is for Justin Verlander, Dallas Kuechel, and Lance McCuller Jr. pitch well.

Boston is 5 games ahead of the Yankees in the AL East. The Red Sox could have the AL East sewn up by the time they take on Houston on Sep. 30. I don’t believe they will.

What it means is that Boston must play hard to stave off the Yankees while Houston is going to allow McCullers to get his arm back into shape.

I think Boston wins this on the run line.

Pick: Boston run line

Toronto at New York Yankees
When:  Saturday, Sep. 30 at 1:05 pm ET
Where: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY
TV: FOX
Listed Pitchers: TOR – Marcus Stroman vs NYY – CC Sabathia

Analysis: If I’m right and the AL East Division comes down to the final couple of games in the regular season, the Yankees must go full throttle against Toronto on Saturday

CC Sabathia, NYY’s listed starter, has a 12 and 5 record this season. That’s amazing because CC is 37-years-old. Sabathia has faced Toronto batters 295 times. The Blue Jays have a .227 batting average against CC.

The Yankees bat .234 against Blue Jays’ ace Marcus Stroman. I don’t see how New York loses this game. I’ll back NYY on the run line.

Pick: New York Yankees run line
