Bet on Toronto at +122 Because…
Starting pitcher Marco Estrada has been hot in his last 4 starts. On Sept. 19 versus Seattle, Estrada gave up 1 hit in 7 innings pitched. He struck out 8. In his next start on Sept. 25, Estrada pitched 7 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run versus the Yankees. He gave up 1 earned run in 5 innings of work versus Boston on Sept. 30 before dominating the Texas Rangers on Oct. 6. In that game, Estrada pitched 8.1 innings. He gave up 1 earned run from 4 hits.
Bet on Cleveland at -132 Because…
Starter Corey Kluber was fantastic against Boston on Oct. 7. Kluber, Cleveland’s ace, gave up 3 hits in 7 innings to arguably the best hitting team in the American League. He dominated the Red Sox. Cleveland ended up winning that game 6 to 0. If Kluber has his best stuff in Game 1, he could be tough.
Expert Pick & Final Score Prediction
Neither one of the starting pitchers is great against the other team’s batters. Marco Estrada allows Cleveland to bat .281 against him. Corey Kluber allows Toronto batters to hit .281 against him.
My guess, is that both pitchers are going to be on in this battle on Friday. To me, both Kluber and Estrada should pitch 7 to 8 innings while giving up 1 to 2 runs each. Once they go to the bullpens is when this game will be decided.
When that happens, I think that Toronto edges out Cleveland. Although Cleveland supposedly has the better bullpen, I believe that Toronto has the better hitters. There is something special about this Toronto team. The way that it swept Texas, in particular how it handled Cole Hamels in Game 1 of that series, was ultra-impressive.
I am picking the Blue Jays over Cleveland in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series and betting the farm.
