The Best Baseball Bets On The Week 23 Board

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals
When: Wednesday, Sept. 9th

The Cubs travel to St. Louis to battle the rival Cardinals in a huge NL Central matchup this week. Chicago’s supposed ace at the beginning of the season, Jon Lester, takes the mound for the Cubs. Lester hasn’t been as lock down city this season as many Cubs’ fans had expected him to be. His ERA is 3.59. His record is 9 and 10 and his WHIP is 1.21.

Versus the Cardinals, Lester has been almost as bad. In 145 at-bats, Lester has allowed 42 hits including 5 home runs and 19 RBIs. He’s allowed a .290 batting average. This is in contrast to Carlos Martinez’s success versus the Cubs as a pitcher.

The 23-year-old Martinez is yet another terrific pitcher for St. Louis. Martinez is scheduled to start for the Cardinals on Wednesday. Martinez has held the Cubs to only 14 hits from 52 at-bats. The Cubs have hit only a single home run off of Martinez.

Chicago is playing with a lot of heart right now, but they face an uphill battle beating St. Louis and Martinez on Wednesday. Go with the home team.

Pick: St. Louis

Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels
When: Friday, Sept 11th, 2015

The Angels are still in the AL West hunt. They’re only 5.5 games behind the Astros to start the week. On Friday, Los Angeles sends ace Garrett Richards to the mound. Versus Houston, Richards has been decent. The ‘Stros only bat .256 versus Richards. They’ve hit only 5 home runs from 180 at-bats.

The Angels will need Richards to be awesome on Friday because Houston sends Dallas Keuchel to the mound. Keuchel is one of the top pitchers in the American League this season. His ERA is a terrific 2.29. His win/loss record is 17 and 6 and he has a .99 WHIP.

But Keuchel struggles against L.A. The Angels bat .283 against him. In 173 at bats, the Angels have 49 hits and 20 RBIs. Mike Trout is 8 out of 26 against Keuchel with a home run. As good as Keuchel has been this season, he might be in some trouble on Friday.

Go with Richards and the Halos.

Pick: Los Angeles Angels

Kansas City Royals at Baltimore Orioles
When: Sunday, Sept 13th, 2015

While everyone will be watching NFL week 1 action, don’t miss out on this game. These 2 teams are opposites from last season. The Orioles were one of the favorites to win the World Series after they dropped Detroit in the playoffs while Kansas City was the underdog. KC ended up beating Baltimore in the ALCS.

This season, Kansas City is the undisputed favorite to win the World Series. They send one of their top pitchers, Yordano Ventura, to the mound this Sunday versus the O’s. Ventura has been awesome since about August 11.

He’s pitched a total of 32 innings in 5 games. He’s allowed 15 hits and a single home run. Ventura’s allowed only 4 total runs. He’s struck out 32 batters, including taking down 11 Baltimore Orioles in a 5 to 3 KC win on August 27.

Baltimore’s Wei-Yin Chen will be counted on to stop KC’s offense. That probably won’t happen. Chen has allowed the Royals to .314 against him. He’s given up 6 home runs and 59 hits from 188 at-bats. KC should win this game by at least 2 runs.

Pick: Kansas City Royals
