October means Halloween, the end of the 162-game regular season and the start of the playoffs for baseball. Both the AL and NL play their wildcard games earlier this week while divisional playoffs for both leagues start later on in the week.

The Las Vegas betting favorite to win the 2017 World Series is Cleveland. Should you bet a few bucks on the Indians? Are there any smart picks to bet? Or is a longshot in the cards this season?
2017 World Series Odds and Picks
- Cleveland +330
- LA Dodgers +380
- Houston +455
- Chicago +775
- Washington +825
- Boston +850
- NY Yankees +1350
- Arizona +1850
- Colorado +3300
- Minnesota +3300
The Las Vegas Favorite To Win The World Series: Cleveland +330
Cleveland is favored to win the 2017 World Series specifically because they won 22 straight games in September. Before the 22-game winning streak, Cleveland was at +700 to win the World Series. Now, they’re at +330.
Is Cleveland worth a bet at +330? Don’t get me wrong, the Tribe should be favored. Cleveland has the best bullpen in MLB based on ERA. The Tribe also has the best starting rotation in baseball based on ERA.
But it’s hard to back a team that already showed its best. There are too many talented baseball teams in this year’s playoffs. I can’t take the low odds.
The Smart Pick To Win The World Series: Chicago Cubs +775
The Cubbies won 15 of their last 20 games during the regular season. That tells me Chicago is hitting its peak at the right time. Not having ace Jake Arrieta in the rotation for the first couple of playoff games could be an issue, right?
I’m not too worried. Manager Joe Maddon has Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, and Jose Quintana to work with. Lester didn’t allow more than 2 earned runs in his last 4 starts versus NL opponents. Hendricks has a 3.03 ERA. Quintana has a 2.63 ERA and a .73 WHIP in his last 13.2 innings pitched.
Maddon knows what it takes to get another World Series ring. Don’t sleep on the defending champions to get the job done at decent odds.
Longshot Pick To Win The World Series: Arizona Diamondbacks +1850
If Arizona can get past the Colorado Rockies in the NL Wildcard Game, they could beat both the L.A. Dodgers and the Washington Nationals in the NL Playoffs. The Diamdonbacks have 2 tough starters in Zack Greinke and Robbie Ray. Patrick Corbin is the third starter who could have a great game in the playoffs.
It all comes down to Wednesday’s matchup with the Rockies. The problem with Greinke is that he can have control issues at Chase Field. I actually might been more comfortable with Arizona as my longshot pick if Wednesday’s matchup was at Colorado instead of in Arizona.
I still think the D’Backs pull it out, though. Arizona’s the longshot play to win the 2017 World Series.
