The shoking winner of the All-Star event in Charlotte last weekend returns to the site of victory as an afterthought on the board. Jamie McMurray is a massive +6000 longshot to win on a track he just won on . McMurray closed as a +4000 longshot when the All-Star race began, and stunned the crowd and race fans everywhere by leading for 31-laps and running a near perfect sprint at the end. However, it would be equally insane to project McMurray as a back-to-back champion in my NASCAR Coca Cola 600 predictions.

Carl Edwards, who is +2000 to win the Coca Cola 600 , was quick to compliment McMurray on his victory. “It was a drag race. My hate is off to him. He earned it” (via ESPN). Edwards is a terrific value play after a great run last weekend and is definitely worth backing if you’re so inclined.

While his victory definitely deserves praise, McMurray was not without a few horseshoes in that race. Klye and Kurt Busch eliminated each other from the race and took Joey Logano with them, which thinned out the field at the top. In the Coca Cola 600 this weekend, Kyle Busch and Joe Logano are amongst the favorites at +800 while Kurt Busch is a +4000 longshot .

The clear cut favorites, according to the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 predictions provided by the oddsmakers, are Kevin Harvick at +500 and Jimmie Johnson at +600 . Harvick is favored for a few reasons, namely that he won this event twice in 2011 and 2013 and as we constantly see in NASCAR betting, defending champions get a nod from the bookies every time. Harvick also desperately needs another victory to climb up the point standings as he sits 15th despite having won two races this year.

However, the better favorite to back is Jimmie Johnson who has an incredible history at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. He has won six times at this track and was the odds on favorite to win at the All-Star event. He deserves some mention here because of his past performances at the venue and for the simple fact that it’s Jimmie Freaking Johnson.
