That was some Daytona 500, wasn’t it? Denny Hamlin just passed Martin Truex Jr. at the finish line to win his first Daytona 500. The JGR driver provided another Daytona win for legendary NFL coach Joe Gibbs. It was the closest finish in the history of the Daytona 500.

Now the Sprint Cup Series heads to Atlanta for the Folds of Honor Quicktrip 500. Is Hamlin the man to beat in Atlanta this Sunday? Will Dale Earnhardt Jr., the favorite at Daytona, make amends for his poor showing by taking home the trophy in Atlanta? Keep reading for my Favorite To Win, the Smart Pick To Win and the Dark Horse Pick To Win this Sunday’s Folds of Honor Quicktrip 500!

The Favorite To Win The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500

Jimmie Johnson will be the favorite to win the Folds of Honor Quicktrip 500 at Atlanta on Sunday, Feb. 28. Johnson has been awesome in the last 2 races at Atlanta Motor Speedway. In the last 2 races over the track, Johnson has a win and a fourth place finish. He’s been as close to a sure thing as possible. What’s even more impressive is that Jimmie’s starting position is 26.5. He started far back in the Daytona 500 and took the lead at one time. He ended up finishing sixteenth at Daytona. If he takes the lead at any point at Atlanta, it’s doubtful that JJ gives it up.

The Smart Pick To Win The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500

Matt Kenseth is the smart pick to win at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Feb. 28. Like Jimmie, he’s dominated in the last 2 races. He finished second to JJ in one of the races at Atlanta. He finished fifth, a placing behind Johnson, in one of the other races at Atlanta. Kenseth will, once again, offer odds of 10 to 1 or higher to win. Any odds at double-digits or higher on Kenseth at Atlanta Motor Speedway constitute fair odds. He actually raced well at Daytona last Sunday, finishing fourteenth. This Sunday, improvement over that finish is expected.

The Long Shot Pick To Win The Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500

Danica Patrick is my dark horse to win. Many of the Chevrolets had all sorts of issues maintaining grip over the Daytona surface. Expect the teams that use the Chevrolets to get those cars together this week. Patrick has an excellent average finish of 11 from an average starting position of 22.5 in the last 2 races at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Considering that Danica will be at 35 to 1 or higher to win the Folds of Honor Quicktrip 500, she just seems like a logical dark horse pick to back. I’m taking a shot on Danica at huge odds to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Atlanta this Sunday.
