2016-17 NBA Championship Picks

The NBA Season is just around the corner. Who is the favorite to win the NBA Title in 2017?  What about my smart play to take home the golden trophy?  Is there a longshot bet worth a look to be the best in the NBA this season?  See below for the favorite, my smart bet and my longshot bet to win the 2017 NBA Championship!

The Odds-On Favorite Pick To Win The NBA Championship: Golden State Warriors 5/7

The love shown to the Warriors doesn’t make any sense to me. Yes, I understand that adding Kevin Durant, one of the great scorers in NBA history, is going to help the Warriors put the basketball in the bucket. No doubt, Golden State should average close to 110 points per game if not more than 110 per game.

But in order to sign Durant, the Warriors had to part with their 2 best centers in Festus Ezeli and Andrew Bogut. Losing Bogut is a big deal. Once the Warriors lost Bogut in the NBA Championship Series last season, they ended up having no answer for the Cavaliers in the middle. Already, Warrior coaches are encouraging Durant to be more aggressive, meaning that they don’t want him to hang out near the 3-point line all day. Golden State is one iffy pick at the low 5 to 7 odds to win the NBA Title in 2017.

The Smart Pick To Win The NBA Championship: Cleveland Cavaliers 5/2

Cleveland shocked Golden State by winning 3 games in a row in the 2016 NBA Finals. It was one of the greatest feats in NBA History. Most of the credit went to the brilliant LeBron James, and for good reason. James stamped himself as one of the Top 3 players to ever hit the hardcourts in the NBA during the series.

But, there wouldn’t have been any great LeBron moment if Golden State hadn’t lost Andrew Bogut to injury. Now, Bogut isn’t even with the Warriors. The Cavaliers should dominate the Eastern Conference with only Boston projected to give them any sort of challenge. Don’t expect the Cavaliers to rest on their laurels now that they’ve won a title. The team should be as hungry as ever. They should also be more dangerous since everybody now understands his role.

The Longshot Pick To Win The NBA Championship: Oklahoma City Thunder 30/1

How could Oklahoma City lose Kevin Durant and be my longshot play to win the NBA Championship in 2017?  Keep reading. Yes, the Thunder lost arguably the best player in its franchise history in Durant. I still think that in Billy Donovan’s second year as the head coach, the Thunder could really surprise everybody. Signing Russell Westbrook was absolutely huge to the franchise. Not only that, but the Thunder traded Serge Ibaka for 3 terrific players in Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and Domantas Sabonis. This is a team that Donovan can truly coach. I think OKC does very well in the 2016-2017 NBA Season.
