Opening Week NBA Expert Picks

NBA Parlay Picks Feb 1-7

My NBA Parlay Picks of the Week will focus on Saturday’s slate of NBA action, the day before Super Bowl 50. Most of the teams that I like are playing at home against teams that they should have no trouble covering spreads against. I did throw Utah into the mix as a dog against the Phoenix Suns, one of the worst teams in the NBA, on Saturday.

My NBA 2-Team Parlay Pick Feb 1-7

  • Houston Rockets
  • Cleveland Cavs

Portland Trailblazers at Houston Rockets
When: Saturday, Feb.6 at 5:00 pm ET

Analysis: Houston has lost 3 games in a row. That should change this week. Center Dwight Howard has been listed as probable for Tuesday. He should be healthy when the Rockets battle the Blazers on Saturday. Howard’s presence is important because the last time that the Rockets played the Blazers, in November last year, the big man took down 19 rebounds. He figures to have the same success versus Portland this Saturday. Houston, because they are only 11 and 16 against the spread at home this season to start the week, should only have to cover a -4 to -5.5 spread versus Portland, a team with a 13 and 12 ATS road record to start the week.

Pick: Houston

New Orleans Pelicans at Cleveland Cavs
When: Saturday, Feb. 66 at 7:00 pm ET

Analysis: All the talk about LeBron being a coach killer should die down to barely a whisper, if anything at all, this week. Since losing 83 to 96 in Tyronn Lue’s first game as head coach, the Cavs have run off 4 straight wins. The 4 wins have been impressive since the Cavs have gone 3 and 1 ATS in the 4 wins and have scored at least 114 points in all 4 wins. What’s also impressive is that the Cavs beat San Antonio 117 to 103 on Jan. 30 as a +1.5point home dog. The Cavs should have no trouble covering the spread versus a Pelican’s team that yields an average of 105 points and 46% shooting from the field each game.

Pick: Cleveland

My NBA 3-Team Parlay Pick Feb 1-7

  • Houston Rockets
  • Cleveland Cavs
  • Utah Jazz

Utah Jazz at Phoenix Suns
When: Saturday, Feb.6 at 9:00 pm ET

Analysis: Wow, Phoenix is a bad team. The Suns 3 and 18 straight-up in their last 21 games. What’s more disturbing than that is that the Suns have gone 2 and 8 ATS in their last 8 games. Utah pummeled the Suns 110 to 89 on Dec. 21 last year. That game was about 5 weeks ago. Since then, the Suns may have gotten worse while Utah is 3 and 1 ATS and straight up to start the week. The Suns sure look like a big loser in this matchup on Feb. 9.

Pick: Utah
