The Best and Worst NBA Teams To Bet On or Against

Bet On These NBA Teams

Not mentioned for good reason: Portland (I get to them later on), Charlotte (because you can never trust this team) and the Clippers (due to Chris Paul’s injury). As for the rest, here are the hottest and/or sturdiest plays in the NBA against the spread betting choices.

Phoenix Suns (24-9-1 ATS)
The Suns continue to defy all logic. This team should not be making the run that they have been, but here we are. So how are they accomplishing this massive feat as one of the best NBA betting teams? They’re highly ranked in terms of perimeter defense, allowing the 10th lowest field goal and 4th lowest three point percentages. They’re also one of the best scoring teams in the league, ranked 9th with 103.2 points per game.

Beyond that, they’re a young, scrappy and athletic bunch that plays a fast brand of small-ball and have started pulling the Morris twins off the bench which is paying off huge dividends as both are averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds combined. That’s not the kind of potential they were expected to produce coming out of Kansas, but as rotation players the Morris twins are giving the Suns front court and scoring depth that other teams can’t match.

Nobody knows how long this run will last, but if you’re not making coin off the Suns’ hard work already it’s not too late to get on board. They’re like a roulette wheel that keeps coming up black – you know it will come up red eventually but as Wesley Snipes put it, “Always bet on black”. At least for now.

Toronto Raptors (20-14 ATS)
Yup. Toronto. That team you never ever hear about is one of the best NBA betting teams since the Rudy Gay trade. The Raptors are an unreal 13-3 ATS and are somehow atop the Atlantic division as they hover around .500. Nothing about this seems sustainable, especially with continued rumors that Masaii Uriji is going to continue to trade away his most valuable assets outside of Amir Johnson and Jonas Valanciunas, who are remarkably efficient players in their own respects (Amir is quickly becoming one of my favorite players in the league).

All this being said, Toronto isn’t a team that anyone’s scared of – or even pays attention to in the big picture – so they’re slipping through the fingers of the oddsmakers. With a favorable schedule coming up over the next week or so, Toronto should stay within your crosshairs every time you check the board.

Indiana Pacers (23-12 ATS)
This is not the time to back off Paul George and company. With a powerful combination of depth, offensive efficiency and defensive dominance there’s a very good chance that the Pacers maintain their position as one of the best NBA betting teams throughout the rest of the year. The strongest defensive teams in the league are usually great sportsbook plays. Games against Washington, New York, the Clippers and Warriors are all on the immediate schedule. Fire away.

Washington Wizards (19-14 ATS)
Some NBA bettors prefer to track just two or three teams because it limits the scope that they have to pay attention to. You can bet on them when they’re playing well, or have great matchups, or bet against them when they’re slumping.

The Wizards are at best a streaky time, but they rarely go through rough slumps against the number. They’ve had just two three-game skids against the spread this year and are worth riding through the good times. You just have to keep track of them, and considering that John Wall is using 2013 as his own personal breakout tour, that’s not such a bad idea. Especially if you can make some good money off the grind.

Don’t Bet On These NBA Teams

The Portland Trail Blazers are one of the top-10 teams in terms of ATS records, but they’re also just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games. The reason is fairly simple: everyone has their eyes on them and the oddsmakers went in to overtime to figure out why these guys were hammering them in the book. Now that they’ve figured out the Blazers to a certain degree, they’re only worth betting on in the big time matchups. How does a three game slate against San Antonio, Dallas and Houston sound next weekend?

And how could I not end the worst NBA betting teams section without mentioning the Milwaukee Bucks? At just 12-22 ATS on the year, and just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games this is the ugliest collection of talent in the NBA. If you catch yourself betting on the Bucks, go outside, take a deep breath, punch yourself in the face and then never, ever do that again. The easiest way to make money on the Bucks? Bet against them at home where they’re 3-13 SU and 4-12 ATS.

If you want to know who’s the worst play outside of the worst team in the league, it’s actually the Detroit Pistons who are a rough and tumble 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games. Just do yourself a favor and stay away from these guys are freely bet against them as the worst NBA betting team on the board.
