This is the third of four meetings between these two with each squad picking up a win each. The Blazers won their first meeting on November 6 bat a 108-87 score after LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points. Portland covered the spread as 2 points favorites.
"I think the best part about it was that we won on both ends of the floor," point guard Damian Lillard said. "We defended really well in the first half; we just couldn’t really get ourselves going like we would have liked to offensively. The second half, we put both ends together, and that’s why we were able to pull away."
The second game between the two was on February 7th and ended with a 111-110 win by the Dallas Mavericks in overtime as Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points in the night.
"They hung in there and basically pitched a shutout in the last two minutes to get to overtime and then we got some momentum," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "That was a hard game, and that’s a heavyweight team in the West."
The Blazers lead the all-time series 76-65, which includes a 48-21 advantage in Portland.
Dallas is led by point guard Monta Ellis (19.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG, 4.4 APG) and Dirk Nowitzki (17.7 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.9 APG). The Mavericks offense averages 105.3 PPG (4th in the NBA) and 22.8 assists (20th). Dallas’ defense allows 100.6 PPG (22nd), and records 42.4 rebounds per game (20th).
The Mavs have won four of the last six games, most recently defeating the New Orleans Pelicans, 102-93, Tuesday night in Dallas. Ellis had 20 points and six rebounds and Rondo added 19 points and five rebounds for the Mavericks, who used a 16-0 third quarter run to beat the Pelicans.
Portland’s top players are LaMarcus Aldridge (23.3 PPG, 10.5 RPG, 1.9 APG) and point guard Damian Lillard (21.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 6.2 APG). The Blazers offense averages 102.5 PPG (8th in the NBA) and 22.1 assists per game (9th). Portland’s defense permits 97.4 PPG, (9th) and grabs 45.7 rebounds per game (3rd).
