After watching LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers get smacked around in the first two games of the NBA Finals again, the big question heading into Wednesday’s Game 3 matchup is quite simple.
Can James and the underdog Cavs get a win to stop Kevin Durant and the steamrolling Golden State Warriors from completing their stated mission of winning this season’s championship?
Make no mistake about it, the task for James and company looks daunting to say the least. Now let’s find out if the desperate Cavs can win outright or cover the spread in Game 3.
Golden State Warriors vs Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Finals Game 3 Odds Pick
Golden State Warriors at Cleveland Cavaliers
When: Wednesday, June 7 at 9:00 PM ET
Where: Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, OH
Spread: Golden State -2.5
Moneyline: Golden State -140 vs Cleveland +130
Why Bet on the Golden State Warriors at -2.5
The better question might be, why not bet on the warriors to win Game 3? After winning Game 1 113-91 on Thursday night to cover the spread as a 7.5-point home favorite, the Dubs cruised to a 132-113 win in Game 2 to easily cover the spread as 9-point home faves.
Durant scored an ‘effortless’ team-high 33 points while adding 13 rebounds and six assists while Steph Curry added a triple double with 32 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. All-star shooting guard Klay Thompson broke out of his slump by adding 22 points on an efficient 8-for-12 shooting night. To make matters worse, Golden State win despite committing 20 turnovers to Cleveland’s nine. The Game 2 win marked first time in NBA Finals history that a team won each of the first two games by at least 19 points.
"A lot of positives," Curry said. "A total team effort tonight with how we played and withstood their first punch coming out."
Why Bet on the Cleveland Cavaliers at +2.5
Other than sheer desperation and the fact that they’re playing at home, there’s not a real good reason to back Cleveland in Game 3 seeing as how they’ve been dominated in every way in the first two games.
"They play well at home," Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said of the Warriors. "They won their first two games like they’re supposed to. We get a chance to go home now to our home crowd, where we play well also. We got to go home and regroup."
The Cavs got a team-high 29 points to go along with 11 rebounds and 11 assists from James in Game 2 and 27 points from Kevin Love, but it wasn’t nearly enough to slow the explosive Dubs. Kyrie Irving struggled with 19 points on a dismal 8-for-23 shooting night.
“We ride or die with Kyrie," Love said. "Kyrie knows what he’s capable of. So I would imagine Kyrie’s going to come out and have a great Game 3."
Golden State vs Cleveland NBA Finals Game 3 Pick
While most basketball fans and experts are expecting LeBron James and the Cavaliers to really show up to get the win in game 3, I’m thinking that Golden State now knows they are far superior to Cleveland and will want to squash any hopes they may have of a comeback by taking Game 3 very seriously.
Golden State is 11-0 ATS in their last 11 road games, a blistering 22-6-1 ATS in their last 29 games overall and a perfect 5-0 ATS in their last five games against Eastern Conference opponents. Conversely, the Cavaliers are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last five games against teams from the Pacific division.
I wouldn’t go acting all surprised when the Dubs take Game 3 people, they’re that much better than the Cavaliers this year!
