After a very difficult off-season for both of these teams they look to get things off to a better start with the season, the Magic lost their first preseason game to the Pelicans while the Mavericks are 1-1 so far. This game will offer a great match-up with both point guards going at each other, the experienced Magic guard Jameer Nelson will have the duties of covering the younger Darren Collison who has proven to be a handful on the open floor. Both of these teams will be resting most of their big man as they give the younger, newer guys a chance to prove themselves.
Orlando Magic vs. Dallas Mavericks
8:30 PM ET, October 14, 2013
American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
Orlando is fighting to get back into the top ranks after losing Howard last season, they know they are not going to be relevant for a while but they have their eyes set on next season’s draft as it is said to be one of the deepest drafts in the last decade. They will have a good amount of money for free agents too but they will have to work on attracting them to the city, having to start from scratch is not really something a big name player is looking for, but with the right pieces in place anything could happen.
Dallas comes into this game knowing that the Magic play most of their offense from the three point line, they will look to shoot first then work around the rebound with Glen Davis down low for the put back if necessary. The Mavericks are looking to get their young stars incorporated to the Maverick style of playing so Elton Brand, DeJuan Blair and Monta Ellis all need to get a good mix of the game.
What to Expect:
I expect the Magic to give the young Mavericks a run for their money as they move the ball around and look for the inside cut but the size and experience factor even of the new guys playing with Dallas will overcome it, the Mavericks are -8 in this game and I do see them covering it by the end of the game, the betting tip for this one is Dallas -8.
