Believe it or not the Pelicans have looked good in recent weeks, coming out of this season’s all-star game this young team has really shown some great endurance even in their losses, you can see that they are learning and Anthony Davis has stepped up his game tremendously to become the top player of this team. With the first two games split between the franchises and the road team taking the win in each one I actually like the Pelicans to push the Kings under the rim and looking to overpower recently suspended center DeMarcus Cousins.
New Orleans will look to really use the mismatch between Davis and Cousins on the offensive side to their advantage given that Davis will force Cousins to leave his comfort zone in the painted area to cover his shooting ability while Gordon will take care of the inside shooting and attacking the rim. Being aggressive in this game will be the factor if they pull out the win. This team needs to push the ball and counter the Kings transition game because Sacramento attacks the basket looking for the foul on most positions.
The Kings newly acquired small forward Rudy Gay has really given this team an added push on defense, he has the ability to side step his opponent to cut off the lane and trap the ball, he leads the team in steals and seems to really play well with the Kings style of offense, look for a fast pace game with the Kings pressing the ball on both ends of the court. Cousins will be back from his one game suspension and I expect him to be an instant impact in this game to make up for his absence in their last contest.
Sacramento is -5 and Cousins will be the difference maker for them, I don’t see the Pelicans being able to stand with Sacramento down the stretch, so expect the Kings to take this one on their home floor.
