NBA Picks Jan 16th-22nd

With football seasons winding down, it is time to expand your sports betting horizons to basketball. The college hoops season is in its infancy, but the NBA is in full swing with the top squads in mid-season form.

NBA Picks Jan 16th-22nd

The matchups are fantastic this week in the NBA. Can Russell and Oklahoma City upset Golden State and former teammate Kevin Durant at Oracle Arena in Oakland on Wednesday? On Friday, Durant and the Warriors head to Houston to battle the Rockets and James Harden. Who wins in that game between two Western Conference powerhouses? Then, on Saturday, is a primetime matchup between Kawhi and San Antonio Spurs, and Lebron and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Will it be Kawhi or Lebron to lead his team to victory?

Oklahoma City at Golden State
When:  Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 10:30 pm ET
Where: Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA
TV: ESPN

Analysis: Oklahoma City is 24 and 17 on the season as of Jan. 14. The team would be one of the worst in the Western Conference if not for Mr. Triple-Double Russell Westbrook. Westbrook should love the pace that Golden State figures to set in this matchup.

Unfortunately, for Oklahoma City fans, the Warriors best player, Steph Curry, can do pretty much whatever he wants since entire defenses must account for Russell’s old mate, Kevin Durant. That gives the Warriors the edge when it comes to who wins this game straight up.

When it comes to the spread, it’s hard to ever back Golden State. The Warriors are a terrible 16-23-1 against the spread this season. Golden State is only 9 and 12 ATS at home. Russell’s good enough to keep this one close.

I think that Oklahoma City covers the spread while Golden State beats the Thunder straight up.

Pick: Oklahoma City

Golden State at Houston
When:  Friday, Jan. 20 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Toyota Center, Houston, TX
TV: ESPN

Analysis: Houston has been the biggest surprise team in the NBA this season. Head Coach Mike Dantoni has the perfect point-guard to run his system in James Harden. These two teams threw down on Dec. 1, 2016. In that game, James Harden went off. He scored 29 points, dished 13 assists, and grabbed 15 rebounds.

Harden may not have to go off against Golden State this Friday for the Rockets to win and cover the spread. Houston is loaded with three-point shooters. They also have a defender in Trevor Ariza that could give Kevin Durant fits.

I like Houston to win another close game. The first battle ended Houston 132, Golden State 129. Don’t be surprised if a similar outcome occurs on Jan. 20.

Pick: Golden State

San Antonio at Cleveland
When:  Saturday, Dec. 21 at 8:30 pm ET
Where: Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, OH
TV: ABC

Analysis: San Antonio versus Cleveland should be a fantastic matchup on Saturday, Dec. 21. The two teams are very similar. Both rely on a small forward/guard type player for success. San Antonio relies on Kawhi Leonard. Cleveland relies on Lebron James. Both teams also have a terrific big man to lean on. The Cavs have Kevin Love. San Antonio has LaMarcus Aldridge.

The difference between the two teams?  Cavs’ guard Kyrie Irving. Irving averages 24 points, close to 6 assists, and close to 4 rebounds per game. He could be the difference for Cleveland in this game. This is especially true since the Cavs battle the Spurs at home.

I like Cleveland against the spread.

Pick: Cleveland
