NBA Slam Dunk Contest Odds & PickJosh Bailey
After narrowly missing out on winning last year’s NBA All-Star Slam Dunk Contest, the Orlando Magic’s Aaron Gordon (pictured) is back and favored to win it all this year with back-to-back reigning champ Zach LaVine sitting out of this year’s event.
Odds to win the 2017 Verizon NBA Slam Dunk Contest
- Aaron Gordon (Orlando Magic) -170
- Derrick Jones (Phoenix Suns) +140
- Glenn Robinson III (Indiana Pacers) +965
- DeAndre Jordon (Los Angeles Clippers) +1260
Will Gordon be able to fend off a trio of challengers in Los Angeles Clippers All-Star center DeAndre Jordan, high-flying Derrick Jones Jr. of the Phoenix Suns and the ‘Big Dog’s’ son, Glenn Robinson III of the Indiana Pacers?
Apparently oddsmakers everywhere believe so. The 2017 Verizon Slam Dunk contest gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
What: NBA Verizon Slam Dunk Contest

2017 Verizon Slam Dunk Betting Analysis
- Aaron Gordon -170 (Orlando Magic)
Needless to say, Aaron Gordon is an amazing dunker that could (should?) have won last year’s event. Without going into too much detail, all I’m going to say is that the three other guys in this event had best bring their ‘A’ games because Gordon undeniably has his sights set on winning this widely popular showcase event.
- Derrick Jones +140 (Phoenix Suns)
If you don’t know who Derrick Jones is, you will very shortly. The Phoenix Suns’ high-flying 6-7 rookie small forward out of UNLV can definitely jump out of the building, but the big question is does he have the creativity to match Aaron Gordon?
- Glenn Robinson III +965 (Indiana Pacers)
I won’t lie. I’m pulling for the son of the legendary Glenn ‘Big Dog’ Robinson simply because of how much I liked his dad. However, after watching some video of the Indiana Pacers 6-6 second-year small forward I’ve come to the conclusion that Robinson is going to need a bit of help in the creativity department. While he can certainly get up, like Jones, he’s going to need some major creativity to beat Aaron Gordon.
- DeAndre Jordon +1260 (Los Angeles Clippers)
The only reasons DeAndre Jordan is in the dunk contest is because of Chris Paul’s super-accurate lob passes. Having said that, no one really wants to see a 7-footer dunk the basketball when he can basically perform that task from the tips of his toes. Fans love and want to see athletic high-flyers that perform 360s and the like and that just isn’t DeAndre Jordan’s game.
2017 Verizon Slam Dunk Prediction
I’m going with the favored Aaron Gordon, who loves and apparently lives for dunking, seeing how his overall game is still severely lacking.
Winner: Aaron Gordon
