With the start of the 2017 NCAA March Madness national championship ready to tip-off, college hoops bettors everywhere need to know just which teams have the best chance of winning it all this season.
Now, let’s get started.
2017 March Madness Men’s College Basketball Title Picks
Prior to the start of the season, the top five teams in terms of odds to win the national championship according to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook were Duke (7-2), Kentucky (8-1), Kansas (8-1), Villanova (10-1) and Oregon (10-1).
Five months later, the odds for all five aren’t much different. Use my March Madness Men’s College Basketball Title betting picks to win big!
The Best Bet To Win The 2017 March Madness National Championship: Kansas 8/1
At 8/1 odds, Kansas (28-4 SU, 11-18-1 ATS), may be the nation’s top-ranked team and prohibitive odds-on favorite to win the 2017 national championship, but I’ve got few concerns about the Jayhawks that were exposed in their stunning 85-82, Big 12 tournament loss against a mediocre TCU team that lost 15 games this season. The Jayhawks are still a legitimate threat to win it all and their loss against the Horned Frogs could turn out to be a blessing in disguise as it will undoubtedly give them plenty of incentive. Kansas hits the NCAA tournament with a 4-2 ATS record over their last six games, but I’ve got concerns about their less-than-inspiring bench players and you should too.
The Smart Bet To Win The 2017 March Madness National Championship: Villanova 8/1
Maybe it’s me, but I’m still in love with defending national champion Villanova Wildcats at a value-packed 8/1 odds (31-3 SU, 18-15 ATS) and even more so after seeing them blow away the competition in the Big East Tournament en route to the conference title this past weekend. Villanova will hit the tournament red-hot, having won five straight and 12 of their last 13 games overall.
Player of the Year candidate Josh Hart (18.9 ppg), is playing excellent basketball and will kick off March Madness coming off a fantastic 29-point effort against Creighton in the Big East title game on Saturday. Villanova ranks 73rd in scoring (77.7 ppg) and a stellar 17th in points allowed (62.8 ppg) and will make their 2017 tourney debut riding a 4-1 ATS mark over their last five games and I believe they’re a legitimate threat to repeat, even of no one is really talking about them this season as possible champs.
The Value Pick To Win The 2017 March Madness National Championship: Kentucky 8/1
I love the value that Kentucky (29-5 SU, 18-2 ATS) is offering at 8/1, particularly seeing as how the Wildcats will hit the NCAA tournament riding an impressive 11-game winning streak. While Kentucky floundered with wildly inconsistent play for the first half of the season, the Wildcats have gotten their act together lately in a big way. Rick Calipari’s ballclub ranks a stellar fifth in scoring nationally (85.9 ppg) and limit the opposition to a respectable 71.6 points per game (163rd). Kentucky is brimming with elite talent, starting with leading scorer Malik Monk (20.4 ppg) and the blossoming De’Aron Fox (16.1 ppg).
The Longshot Pick To Win The 2017 March Madness National Championship: Iowa State 60/1
The Cyclones (23-10 SU, 18-12 ATS) don’t get a whole lot of press, but I like Iowa State as a 60/1 longshot selection, although I will admit it was a touch call over Notre Dame at 80/1 odds.
The Cyclones have recorded some quality wins this season over a handful of nationally-ranked rivals like West Virginia, Baylor and Kansas while suffering a heartbreaking two – point loss against previously No. 1 Gonzaga and a four-point loss against Kansas.
Iowa State also has some nice momentum going, having won three straight and nine of their last 10 games and the Cyclones have plenty of talent starting with their three-headed guard trio of Monte Morris (16.3 ppg), Nazareth Mitrou-Long (15.5 ppg) and Devonte Burton (14.8 ppg).
Here is a look at the top favorites and some longer shots to win the 2017 national championship.
