2018 NCAA Basketball Title Betting Favorite – Villanova 9/2

Villanova (30-4) is one of three co-favorites along with Duke and Michigan State, but for me, the Wildcats are the best – and deepest of three three teams and have been my pick to win it all this season since opening night. Villanova hits the NCAA Tournament playing excellent basketball, having won five straight games. Nova won all three of their Big East tournament matchups by double digits en route to the conference title and rank first nationally in scoring (87.1 ppg), not to mention, they’re the only team in the nation with six double-digit scorers on their roster. They’ve got several players left over from their 2015-16 national championship-winning team and one of the best coaches in all of college basketball.

2018 NCAA Basketball Title Betting Smart Pick – Virginia 6/1

A lot of people still don’t like Virginia (31-2) because of their style of play, but I don’t care that they win ‘ugly’. For me, the Cavaliers are the undoubted ‘smart’ pick to win it all this season for a handful of reasons, but none better than their incomparable defense. Virginia plays defense like I personally haven’t seen since in decades. The Cavs ranked first in the nation in points allowed by holding their opponents to a mind-boggling 53.4 points per game while also ranking third in field goal percentage defense (37.5%) and sixth in three-point shooting defense (30.3%). Virginia has won eight straight games coming into March Madness and they’ve got a trio of excellent scorers that all shoot almost 40 percent from beyond the arc.

The 2018 NCAA Basketball Title Betting Longshot – Wichita State 25/1

The Shockers (25-7) have flown under the radar for the vast majority of the season and they’re not exactly on fire heading into the NCAA Tournament, having lost two of three games. While Wichita State suffered a 77-74 AAC conference tourney loss to Houston this past Saturday and also lost their regular season finale against Cincinnati 62-61 six days earlier, I love the fact that the Shockers are smart, share the ball (with four double-digit scorers) and can score with the best teams in the nation in ranking 20th in scoring (83.0 ppg). Wichita State also has a great head coach in Gregg Marshall that knows what it takes to succeed in the NCAA Tournament and I can see the Shockers stunning a few opponents en route to the six straight wins they’ll need to win it all!
