4 March Madness Cinderella Betting PicksJosh Bailey
At NCAA Tournament time, you had better pick some dogs to advance out of the First Round. That’s the only way that you’re going to win your office pool. So, which lower than 10 seeds in each region have a shot in the 2016 NCAA Tournament?
Nobody should be surprised that 2 of my 4 first round upset picks are 12 seeds. It’s a given that at least one 5 seed will go down to a 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament. It seems to happen every year. This season, the 12 seeds have a ton of talent. See below for the 4 teams that I think could be wearing Cinderella’s slipper at the Big Dance in 2016!
A Closer Look At My Top Four March Madness Cinderella Betting Picks
- Chattanooga, 12 Seed East Region- The Chattanooga Mocs take on Indiana, the Big Ten Regular Season Champs, in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament. The Mocs have the inside-outside game with guard Greg Pryor and forward Tre McLean that could give Indiana fits. Once Chattanooga gets past Indiana, they could end up playing Kentucky, a team with a lot of freshman, in Round 2. Chattanooga would have a huge chance to upset the Wildcats because of Pryor’s decision making at the point.
- Iona, 13 Seed Midwest Region – The Gaels couldn’t have asked for a better first round matchup than taking on Iowa State. Iona averages 79.6 points per game from close to 46% shooting from the field and 37% shooting from three. A.J. English leads the team in points per game at 22.4 and assists per game at 6. He also grabs 5 boards each matchup. Iowa State likes to run and gun as well, which means that they could have trouble stopping English and the Gaels’ offense. After upsetting Iowa State, the Gaels could face slow it down Purdue. Iona could make it to the Sweet 16.
- Little Rock, 12 Seed Midwest Region – Iona will face Purdue unless Little Rock upsets Purdue in the first round. The real name is Arkansas-Little Rock, but most of the brackets are just going to call the 12 Seed in the Midwest Little Rock. The Little Rock Trojans won 7 out of their last 8 games. The Trojans could take it too Purdue with their fast, small, line-up. Little Rock shoots close to 40% from the three-point line. They have a 6’5”, 230 pounds forward named Roger Wood who shoots close to 36% from three. If Woods and guard Josh Hagins are raining threes this weekend, Little Rock could punch their ticket to the Sweet 16.
- Stony Brook, 13 Seed East Region – Stony Brook faces Kentucky in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Kentucky should beat Stony Brook due to Tyler Ulis, one of the top players in the nation. Ulis is an excellent guard. But Ulis and the Wildcats face Stony Brook in Round 1. Stony Brook has a big man named Jameel Warney who averages 19.8 points and 10.7 boards per game. Guard Ahmad Walker averages over 10 points, close to 7 boards and over 4 assists per game. Small, Ulis type guard Carson Puriefoy averages close to 16 points per game. Stony Brook is tailor-made to upset the Kentucky Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. After Kentucky, Stony Brook could upset either Chattanooga or Indiana in Round 2.
