Baylor V Iowa State Spread Betting, ATS Pick & How To Watch

The 12th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones are 5.5-point home favorites return to Hilton Coliseum tonight to to host their 10th ranked opponent this season as the No. 19 Baylor Bears claw their way into Ames, Iowa.

The Bears have never beaten the Cyclones in 12 games in Ames, as Hilton Coliseum, with an average of more than 14,000 fans per game, is a nasty place for any team to play in as the Cyclones have gone 14-0 in home games this season.

“We’ve had a couple of good learning experiences on the road,” Cyclones coach Fred Hoiberg said. “I give our guys a lot of credit for fighting through the tough times, finding a way to handle adversity better. On the road, you splinter a little bit. At home, we can afford to do that, because the 15,000 (fans) behind you are going to bring you back together.”

A loss by the visiting the Bears at Hilton Coliseum will make-up for their 74-73 in loss against Baylor in Waco on Jan. 14. Iowa State stormed back from 14 down with 8 1/2 minutes left, but Bears’ senior guard Kenny Chery made the winning jumper with 4.7 seconds to go.

Iowa State has won all 12 games in the series at home.

Baylor Will Cover the Spread If

Baylor can force Iowa State into taking bad shots.

The Bears barely beat Iowa State in the last game, 74 to 73, as a 2 point home favorite. The usually stout Baylor defense definitely didn’t play well in that matchup. Baylor allowed Iowa State to shoot 46.4% from the field in a 26 out of 56 performance. Iowa State hit 10 out of 19 three-point shots for 52.6%. It wasn’t a very good performance.

But it might have also been an anomaly. Baylor is one of the better defensive teams in college basketball. The Bears, on average, allow only 58.5 points per game. Opponents shoot only 39.3% from the field and 28.8% from the three-point line versus the Bears. The trick for Baylor to cover the spread versus Iowa State on the road in this matchup is for Baylor to hold Iowa State to less than 45% shooting from the field. Baylor has to do that or else they’ll be in danger of getting blown out in this matchup.

Iowa State Will Cover the Spread If

The Cyclones’ defense is playing well.

Iowa State is a dangerous team because the Cyclones can put distance between their opponents and themselves in the blink of an eye. Versus Baylor the first time, Iowa State was close to doing that. The problem is that even though Iowa State’s offense was humming along, the defense allowed Baylor to take 70 shots. That’s a lot of shots. Baylor only shot 42.9% from the field, but when you take 70 shots and hit 30 of them, more often than not, you’ll be in the game to the very end.

The Bears also took 23 three-point shots. They hit only 9 of them, but it was enough for Baylor to stay close to Iowa State until the very end where the Bears got the final bucket for a point victory. Iowa State needs to make sure to limit Baylor’s shots in some way. The best way to do that is to hit a higher percentage on offense and then to get back on defense when they miss shots and miss out on offensive boards. If Iowa State’s defense can play better, they should be able to cover the spread.
