College Basketball Best Bets Feb 22nd-28thJosh Bailey
We’re almost in March, which means that the madness is just around the corner! My best bets this week include a battle between the Top 2 teams in the Big East: Villanova and Xavier, on Wednesday Feb. 24.
I also like one of the teams in a huge Big 12 battle this Saturday, Feb. 27 when Oklahoma takes on Texas. My final best bet of the week takes place in the massive ACC matchup between the Top 10 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels and the Top 10 ranked Virginia Cavaliers. That game also takes place on Saturday, Feb. 27.
A Closer Look At My College Basketball Best Bets Feb 22nd-28th
#1 Villanova at #8 Xavier
When: Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7:00 pm ET
TV: Fox Sports 1
Although the Villanova Wildcats don’t have a great ATS record to start the week, 13-12-1, they have been unbeatable since the 76 to 82 overtime loss to Providence on Jan. 24. Villanova has run off 7 straight wins since that loss. Can Villanova make it eight in a row by beating Xavier in Xavier on Feb. 24?
I don’t think so. The Wildcats decimated the Musketeers in a stunning 95 to 64 Villanova win on Dec. 31. That was some time ago. Both teams are very different than the one that Villanova dominated then. The Xavier Musketeers have really turned it on since being upset by Creighton 70 to 56 on Feb. 9. Since the loss, the Musketeers have gone 3 and 0 both straight up and ATS in their last 3 games. They can beat Villanova at home on Wednesday night.
#3 Oklahoma at #24 Texas
When: Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2:00 pm ET
After losing 3 out of their last 4 games, the Oklahoma Sooners bounced back with a terrific 72 to 64 win over ranked West Virginia in West Virginia on Feb. 20. In that game, Buddy Hield scored 29 points.
Texas ended the week by losing 64 to 78 to Baylor as a 5.5 point home favorite on Feb. 20. Texas is much better than what it showed against Baylor in that loss this past Saturday. Versus the Sooners the first time, the Longhorns allowed Hield to score 27 points. Texas almost pulled off the upset in a 60 to 63 loss. This Saturday, Shaka Smart’s team should turn the tables on the Sooners. I like the Longhorns.
#5 North Carolina at #7 Virginia
When: Saturday, Feb. 27 at 6:30 pm ET
Even though North Carolina lost to Duke 73 to 74 last week, the real matchup is this week is on Saturday when the Tar Heels battle the Virginia Cavaliers. Virginia and North Carolina are without a doubt the two best teams in the ACC.
The Tar Heels beat Virginia 71 to 67 the last time that these two faced each other. That game was almost a year ago last March. Both teams are very different now. Virginia hasn’t allowed an opponent to score 70 points or more since a 72 to 71 win over Wake Forest on Jan. 26. That’s a string of 6 straight games of playing lock down defense. Virginia’s D should frustrate North Carolina to the point where the Tar Heels start taking bad shots. I like Virginia.
