College Basketball Betting Cheat Sheet Jan 25-31Josh Bailey
With a football free (the Pro-Bowl really isn’t football) weekend coming we will be treated to another great week of college hoops action is on tap this week. For me, the best bets start this Thursday when Oregon takes on Arizona in the deep Pac 12. Arizona will be looking to bounce back from a stunning weekend loss to Cal up in the Bay Area.
On Saturday, Minnesota takes on Indiana while #1 Oklahoma battles LSU and top freshman Ben Simmons. Games on the schedule featuring Big East teams figure prominently in my betting cheat sheet this week. Butler takes on Marquette while Providence takes on Georgetown. See below for the top ATS, Over/Under and Moneyline picks for this week’s college hoops betting cheat sheet!
College Basketball ATS Free Picks
Oregon at #11 Arizona
When: Thursday, Jan. 28 at 9:00 pm ET
Analysis: At 16 and 4, Oregon is tied with Arizona for second place in the tough Pac 12 Conference. The Ducks are a good team, but they are much better at home against the spread than they are on the road. Oregon is 7 and 3 at home ATS. On the road, Oregon is 2 and 2. Arizona is 7 and 4 against the spread at home this season. The Wildcats should make it 8 and 4 ATS after this game since they’ll go into it after a tough 73 to 74 loss to Cal.
Minnesota at #23 Indiana
When: Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2:15 pm ET
Analysis: Minnesota is one of the worst teams in college basketball. The Gophers haven’t won since Dec. 16 when they beat Chicago State 70 to 52. They’ve lost 8 straight. Their record ATS is 5 and 14. They’ve gone 1 and 3 ATS on the road this season. While Minnesota has been horrible in every phase of the game, Indiana has proven to be tough to get close to at home. The Hoosiers are an excellent 9 and 3 ATS at home. They should beat Minnesota by 30.
#1 Oklahoma at LSU
When: Saturday, Jan. 30 at 5:00 pm ET
Analysis: Oklahoma is a terrific team. The Sooners have an exceptional 16 and 2 straight up record. They have the likely Naismith Award Winner this season in Buddy Heild. But, the Sooners aren’t a very good team against the spread. Oklahoma is 3 and 7 ATS in its last 10 games. LSU has super frosh Ben Simmons playing for them. Simmons has led the Tigers to a 4 and 4 ATS record at home. I like LSU.
College Basketball Game Total Over/Under Picks
#24 Butler at Marquette
When: Saturday, Jan.30 at 2:00 pm ET
Analysis: Marquette averages 75 points a game while giving up close to 72 per game. The over is 1 and 2 in Marquette’s last 2 games, though. The only over occurred when Marquette beat St. John’s 81 to 75 on Jan. 9. St. John’s is the worst team in the Big East. Butler has played in 5 straight under games as of Jan. 24. Expect this one to go under easily since the Bulldogs should virtually shut down Marquette’s offense.
#17 Providence at Georgetown
When: Saturday, Jan. 30 at 8:00 pm ET
Analysis: This should be a fantastic game. Like guard play? 2 of the best in the nation in Providence’s Kris Dunn and Georgetown’s D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera play in this game. Love inside play? Marvel at Providence’s Ben Bentil and Georgetown’s 7’ 0” center Bradley Hayes. Since both teams can score from anywhere on the floor, expect this one to go way over.
#2 North Carolina at #16 Louisville
When: Monday, Feb.1 at 7:00 pm ET
Analysis: Louisville has the best defense in the nation. The total is 3 over, 5 under and 1 push in 9 Louisville home games this season. Opponents average 58 points per game against the Cardinals’ defense. But, Louisville has played in 2 straight over games as of Jan. 24. The reason is because Louisville is very good offensively; it averages 80 points per game. When it plays a good offensive team, the Cardinals go with the flow. North Carolina averages 85.6 points per game. This one goes over.
College Basketball Straight Up Moneyline Picks
#14 Miami at NC State
When: Saturday, Jan. 30 at 3:00 pm ET
Analysis: The NC State Wolfpack appeared to have the game in hand against Duke in the first half. Then, Duke came out and the genius that is Coach K made the necessary adjustments and Duke beat NC State by 10 to cover the spread. The Wolfpack still have one of the top players in the ACC on their team in Anthony “Cat” Barber. Miami hasn’t seen Cat for about a year. I expect Cat and the Pack to get the job done versus the ranked Hurricanes.
Pick: NC State
#19 Kentucky at #3 Kansas
When: Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7:00 pm ET
Analysis: Kentucky travels to Kansas on Saturday, Jan. 30. Could John Calipari’s crew win a game in one of the toughest arenas in all of college hoops? Although Kansas has gone 4 and 2 straight up in its last 6 games, they’ve also gone 2 and 4 ATS in those 6 games. This is in contrast to Kentucky who has gone both 2 and 0 straight up and 2 and 0 ATS in their last 2 as of Jan. 24. Kentucky has a chance to make a statement on Jan. 30. I think that they will.
