I’ve got four college basketball betting free picks for you this weekend that all involve ranked teams against ranked teams. We’re getting to the meaty party of the regular season, folks. It’s about time we got a handle on this season as we barrel in to championship week!
College Basketball Betting Free Picks
#1 Syracuse Orange over #6 DUKE BLUE DEVILS (7pm EST)
This is easily the biggest game of the weekend and perhaps the hardest to gauge in terms of college basketball betting free picks. Syracuse is coming off their first loss of the season against Boston College in an overtime heartbreaker. Frankly, it feels like it’s been a long time coming. They barely beat Pittsburgh and NC State and are now just 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games. I love C.J. Fair and Tyler Ennis, but Syracuse wasn’t supposed to be the top ranked team in the country. They are still a Top-5 team; all I mean is that they’ve been playing above expectations.
Duke is going to have their hands full this week since they have to play UNC in a make-up game after their scheduled matchup was snowed out last weekend (I can’t believe that I just wrote that an indoor basketball game in the south got snowed out). The Blue Devils have been taking care of business through a 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS streak that has their backers salivating and while Jabari Parker leaves a lot to be desired, he’s still averaging a blissful 19.2 points per game.
To be honest, Duke feels like the better choice in college basketball betting free picks. Syracuse might be running out of gas, but I also love that they’re 5-1 ATS when playing on the road this year. The Blue Devils should be facing a somewhat bloated line at home this weekend and are also playing two strong teams within three days of each other. How Syracuse responds to adversity will help define them as championship contenders, and there’s no better team to prove that against than Coach K and the Blue Devils.
#15 IOWA HAWKEYES over #18 Wisconsin Badgers (12pm EST)
I think that people are generally a little too excited about Iowa, but they’re still a very fun college basketball betting commodity, especially when they’re posting a 7-3 ATS record in their last 10 games. To some, they lose a little bit of value as a home team bet because they’re just 7-5 ATS as hosts. But Wisconsin presents almost no value as a betting team period. They’re 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games and Iowa’s surly fans will make things even harder for the visiting Badgers. This is a huge battle in the Big Ten and Iowa will get the win and the cover.
#9 CINCINNATI BEARCATS over #5 Louisville Cardinal (12pm EST)
There’s no real rhyme or reason for the Bearcats being so abysmal in college basketball betting this season. It’s been tough to side with them in my free picks, especially after a slippery 3-7 ATS run in their last 10 games. However, they’re still atop the AAC standings earned a win over Louisville the last time they played each other. Sean Kilpatrick and Justin Jackson are a formidable duo for the Bearcats and this is a must-win game for Cincinnati as it tries to close out the season as the best in the conference. Louisville is usually a pretty decent road team at 6-2 ATS, but this will be a tight line and I like Cincinnati to win over all.
#8 KANSAS JAYHAWKS over #17 Texas Longhorns (7:30pm EST)
The Texas Longhorns are a bit of a misnomer. They’re an emphatically overachieving home team that loves to paste opponents that visit them. The last time they played Kansas, they crushed the Jayhawks 81-69. This is a solid basketball team with the prototypical length and board crashing you’d expect from them. But they’re also 3-5 ATS when travelling. I’m not super pumped about them facing a Kansas team that is starting to find its groove slowly but surely. Wiggins and Embiid are back together again and Kansas has gone 5-0 SU and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. That’s why Kansas earns the lean in this college basketball betting free pick.
