College Basketball Betting Picks Feb 1-7Josh Bailey
College basketball has started to resemble what it does every season, a mad scramble right before March to see which teams will get the right seeds to help with the Final Four run. Ranked teams are going to use the next month to solidify their positions in the eyes of the Selection Committee.
I’m going to try and take advantage of that fact with my college hoops betting picks this week. I like #8 Xavier versus St. John’s on Feb. 3. I also like #5 Texas A&M in their battle versus Vanderbilt on Feb. 4. #12 Virginia on the road versus #23 Pittsburgh on Feb. 6 caught my eye as did Georgia Tech at home versus #13 Miami-FL on Feb. 7.
A Closer Look At My College Basketball Betting Picks Feb 1-7
St. John’s at #8 Xavier
When: Feb. 3
St. John’s is 1 and 4 ATS in their away games this season. The Red Storm is a very bad team. Truly, though, their issues might have to do with Coach Chris Mullin who doesn’t seem to make the necessary halftime adjustments that other coaches make. He won’t start learning how to make those adjustments in a game versus the very talented Xavier Musketeers on Feb. 3. Xavier has won 8 out of their last 10. Xavier beat St. John’s 74 to 66 the last time that these two teams played each other. That difference should be much greater in this game.
#5 Texas A&M at Vanderbilt
When: Feb. 4
About a year ago, Texas A&M beat Vanderbilt 69 to 58. It was a dynamite win by the Aggies. This time around, A&M might beat Vanderbilt by more than 11 points. Texas A&M is for real. The Aggies play a Virginia Cavaliers’ type style of defense where their opponents only average 66.3 points off of 38% shooting from the field and a ridiculous 27.5% from three. A&M could go a long way in the NCAA Tournament because of their incredible defense. A team like Vanderbilt has no shot against them.
#12 Virginia at #23 Pittsburgh
When: Feb. 6
Just when I thought I had everything figured out Virginia pulls a fast one on me. Virginia figured to give Louisville all that the Cardinals could handle at home in a key ACC game this past weekend. But nobody really thought that Virginia was going to beat Louisville 63 to 47 as a +5.5-point dog, did they? Virginia can play any style that their opponents want to play. Pitt plays too fast to deal with Virginia, who can run with the Panthers. If Pitt tries to slow it down, forget it. Virginia wins easily.
#13 Miami-FL at Georgia Tech
When: Feb. 7
Miami-FL has looked great at times. Then, the Canes have looked absolutely terrible at other times. Against North Carolina State, Miami-FL absolutely bombed. The Canes got drilled 85 to 69 versus the down in their dumps Wolfpack. On Feb. 7, Miami-FL travels to Georgia Tech to take on one of the tougher teams in the ACC. At 12 and 9, Georgia Tech needs to win every game that they can in order to garner an NCAA Tournament bid. The Yellow Jackets have won 2 out of their last 3 and have covered in 3 in a row. I like G. Tech to do a number on Miami-FL on Feb. 7.
Pick: Georgia Tech
